Re: wireless problems

If your wireless router uses encryption, make sure you have the correct key (exactly) on the laptop. It might help to view the key you entered in the router by using the router admin page and then print or copy/paste this key. Would need more info to troubleshoot further.

Vaio fs920 will not connect to wireless internet

I'm assuming you are still using WinXP on this machine? If so make sure you have Service Pack 3 installed since XP doesn't have native support for newer wireless encryption standards like WPA2.
If you are using WPA2 encryption on your network then try setting it to an older version like WEP and connecting that way, if that works but not with WPA2 then you don't have the extensions for the newer encryption protocols installed that come with Service Pack 3.

Hi, I have brought a Wireless router (D-Link) and I am trying the connect my Toshiba notebook (L305D-S5892). In the available wireless netwroks it shows my network but it is unable to connect. The error...

There are a number of possible solutions for this problem. The best route may be calling customer support for Toshiba and/or the manufacturer of the Wireless router. I'm just brainstroming here, but when I tried to hook up my WII and XBOX wirelessly to the internet, I had to have a "G" connection. Further, you also don't metion the brand or model number of the router. My security setting also had to match there is WEP vs. 128 bit encryption, you have to make sure whatever the defult value is on the computer matches the network.

Usually there is a data plate somewhere on the laptop, probably underneath that will give you the model and serial number. There may be a customer support number nearby that you can call for futher assistence. I'm also assuming that you have "Windows" installed.

On my computer, I have the latest version 7 installed. If you're looking at the Desktop with no other applications running, press F1, then type in network connections, click search. On my computer, the answer came in at number 8, "Why Can't I connect to a network?". There are other possible answers such as "Setting Up a Wireless Network." Most people don't realize that there is built in help with the computer.

Unable to go wireless, Notebook settings

It may be the authentication settings for the wireless connection, I am not sure what OS you are running but try turning off authentication in the connection settings.

If that doesn't work, try the network setup wizard if you have windows. You might also delete any saved 'profiles' for the wireless connection under the "Connect to the networks automatically' part.

If that still doesn't work, you could try uninstalling the wireless adapter from device manager and let windows reinstall it.

Need to Change WEP Data Encrytion to WPA in Wireless Network Connection Properties

Hiya, first thing you should check is that your wireless card/usb on your laptop actually supports WPA. I changed to WPA and 3 out of 5 of my laptops could not log on. Took me an age to find out what was wrong. Try changing back to WEP on both units. If they can both log on then see if you can try to borrow a wireless card that you know supports WPA, change back to WPA settings and see if new card works. Don't even assume that new cards/usb's are all WPA compatible. Friends was bought in Nov and isn't able to run WPA.
