Remove the HDD inside the case,If the HDD inside is working, remove data with a usb to IDE/SATA Adapter. If the HDD is damaged, which is likely, It ,most likely, can be read, but I don't think you are going to like the bill for that service.

What you can try to do is go into (08) mode by holding the 0 and 8 keys while turning on the copier. Once it comes into test mode key in 684, this rebuilds the databases. If this doesn't fix it go into (08) mode again and key in 690 and press start, key in 2 and just hit start again. This formats the HDD and hopefully the copier will work after that. If not you will likely have to replace the HDD.

Note: When you format the HDD it clears out only information such as address book and templates.

this may be a h/w failure. go to bios and run the hdd test from the diagnostic option. if it says no ide device found, reseat the hdd and turn it back on. if its still the same. replace ur hdd.

On laptops and notebooks it is not advisable to have dual OS as Windows does not tolerate any other OS along with it. If you can partition the disk (not so easy a task), then you can install Ubuntu on the second partition. While if you can not partition the HDD, then secure professional help. If even that is not possible then I suggest download Knoppix from www.knoppix.com and burn a live CD. Live CD is a bootable CD that runs the OS. Knoppix is free to download and is not too different from Ubuntu.
Just remember that IF you do manage to partition the HDD then you must install Windows first and then Ubuntu as the latter is capable of co-exsisting with other OSes and not Windows. If you install Windows later than it will overwrite the boot sector and render Ubuntu unusable.

Your HDD is having issues. You can try formatting the HDD (make sure you backup templates and address book if you use them.) To format HDD hold 0 and 8 while turning on the copier, when the machine comes ready key in 690 and hit start. It will then display "2 2", hit start again. Wait for it to say please reboot the machine, turn it off and back on. Hopefully this will work but if not, your HDD will need replacing.

Sounds like you fried the circuit in the WD. Hopefully it's not the HDD electronics but only the power-connector electronics.

You could try to disconnect and remove the HDD from the WD book and hook it up to a computer 'internally'. If it's recognized, the HDD itself is probably fine and you should be able to rescue the data.

If not, the HDD electronics are probably fried too, meaning that for data recovery, the electronics on the HDD have to be replaced, which requires a "donor HDD" (of exact the same type). That would be a very expensive data recovery (in both parts and labor).

PLEASE CHECK YOUR POWER CORD IF CONNECTED PROPERLY ,NEXT TRY TO REMOVE THE POER PORT FROM YOUR HDD AND REPLACE IT BACK IT SHOULD WORK ONCE UU U HERE THE SOUND OF YOUR HARD DISK SPINNING TRY TO COONECT THE USB CABLE TO THE HDD AND THEN TO THE SYSTEM IT SHOULD WORK..

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.
