How to replace geared belt on Hoover Savvy U8171

Tom, This one is tricky. First get the belt on the geared motor pully, and then insert the roller through it. You will have to roll the brush toward the body of the vac to have enough room. Patience is the best on this model.

Roller bars on bottom not rolling

The belt has probably broken. Hoover says that the belt on this model should last the life of the vacuum, but that is rarely the case. They do wear and break. Changing the belt is simple and the belts aren't to much. You can get a replacement here:

Need a replacement belt for upright Hoover durabrand

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The best place to get a replacement belt for a Hoover DuraBrand vacuum is to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the factory @ Hoover listed below and call cust serv and they will direct you to the parts dept. but, please use the genuine belts instead of replacement belts and the average belt change for flat belts is every 4 to 6 months and if it is a geared belt than once a year for the best cleaning. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.
