Question about Mitsumi (FA404MBLACK) (fa404m/black) Internal Floppy Drive

1 Answer

FA404M installation This is a combo floppy/memory card reader. I understand that I have to connect the power and the usb connection. But do I also have to connect the floppy connector? or does the usb connection do it all. I.e. do I connect all connectors or is there a choice of connections? Why does the connector on the back of the unit not appear to be a standard floppy pin-out?

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Hello, The videos will not be in the same folder where your pictures are. Follow these steps. 1.First, connect your digital camera to your computer. You can do this in two different ways: a.Use a USB cable. Most digital cameras come with a cable that connects the camera to a USB (Universal Serial Bus) port on your computer. The first time you connect your camera to your computer, the New Hardware Wizard will help you install the software needed to copy pictures and video from your camera. You may need to insert the CD-ROM that was included with your camera into your computer's CD drive or download software from your camera manufacturer's Web site. b.Use memory card reader. A memory card reader is a piece of hardware that plugs into your computer. When you're ready to download video, you can remove the memory card from your camera and insert it into your memory card reader, similar to the way you might transfer a file between two computers using a floppy disk. Picture of a computer with a memory card Tip: It's usually faster to use a memory card reader to copy your pictures or video than to connect your camera to your computer with a cable. If you don't own a memory card reader, you might want to consider purchasing one. They are inexpensive and will save you time. 2.Once you've connected your camera to your computer or inserted your memory card into your memory card reader, Windows XP will detect the connection to your memory card and ask what to do with your videos. Click Open folder to view files, and then click OK. Click Open folder to view files, and then click OK 3.Windows Explorer opens, showing your memory card. Your videos are contained within one of the subfolders of the memory card. Double-click each folder to locate your videos. 4.Once located. copy them to your computer and then select all and delete. Mitsumi 7 in 1 card reader

There are two cnnections required on the back of the card reader.
One is for the Floppy drive. It is flat and wide cable.
The other is a black cable with a smaller connector. This is a USB connector that needs to be plugged into your motherboard.

These USB connections are usually near the bottom right of the motherboard where you connect the power switch and LED lights. They usually have 9 pins. See this link and loko at the third picture so see what i'm talking about.

If you don't have a USB connector on the motherboard.. you'll need to purchase an extension card or an adapter that will plug into a usb outlet on the front of back of your computer.

Best wishes...

There is a white cable fixed to the drive that appears to have

The 7 pin connector is for the media card readers and needs to be plugged into a USB header on your motherboard. Not all motherboards have this header, so consult your motherboard manual. You may have to connect it in place of front USB connectors on your PC case.

The card reader will work without a separate power connection. The power connection is for the floppy drive only, and IS required for the drive to work. You should be able to find the appropriate connector on your power supply.

Imstalling internal card reader

Well, installing an internal card reader without a spot on the motherboard, is a little hard to do. I would suggest buying an external card reader. They are a little cheaper, and a lot easier to setup and use, since they just connect to a USB port which all computers have.
