How to clean sigma 500mm 4.5 fungus

Do you have a lens collimator and other gear needed to ensure proper alignment when reassembling the lens? If not, try this. Put the lens inside a window where it receives directly sunlight. Yes, you'll probably have to move the lens every few hours to it continues to receive direct sunlight. Do this for a day or two. If the fungus persists then take the lens to a reputable camera shop and have a properly trained and equipped professional clean the lens.

How to clean the fungus off a Mirror on the inside of a 500mm Mirror lens

Unless you have a lens collimator and other gear needed to make sure you get the lens and mirrors aligned properly when you put it back together, don't even think about taking it apart. Take it to a reputable camera shop and have a trained professional do it.

How do you clean the lens of a portable DVD player

I use a good quality micro-fiber cloth. Like the ones in a eye glass cleaning kit.
fold it to a point and touch the tip in rubbing alcohol. gently clean the lens with the wetted towel tip and fold a dry section to a point and dry it off.
I have done this for my dads karaokee players as they get dirty fast and the words mess up.
Some people may advise you to use a Q-tip or other cloth. DO NOT DO THAT. It CAN scratch the lens!

I use this lense with a Canon rebel and get an error message that it cannot communicate and to clean contacts. How do I do that?

Wow, I'm surprised to actually tells you to clean the contacts? What model Canon Rebel do you have? Okay for cleaning the contacts simplest and most effective way is with a good clean new red rubber pencil eraser. Make sure the camera is off and remove the lens, place the camera body face down on a clean lint free surface or install a body cap if you have one. Hold the lens as vertical as possible but tilted slightly to be able to see and work with the gold contacts. Lightly rub the contact surface with the eraser, it won't look as if you have done much but it does shine them up well. When you have finished cleaning them use a lens cloth (not a tissue) to lightly clean any rubber dust from around the contacts and the rest of the mount. There shouldn't be much if any you are polishing the surface not erasing. Set the lens aside and while holding the camera as much as possible lens side down take the eraser and gently clean the contacts again it doesn't take much don't forget you are polishing not erasing, a few passes should be all it takes. Once done again use the lens cloth not a tissue and clean the area of any dust that may have occurred. Assemble the lens and camera and turn it on.

On another note but a related subject. How new is your Rebel compared to the Quantaray lens? If the lens is newer then the camera that's fine but if the camera is newer then the lens this also may be part of the problem.

Nikkor Lens Fix

The fading (flare) you see could simply be a finger smudge or other stuff. One little scratch won't do it, you'd have to take sandpaper to the lens to see obvious flare.

It's actually harder to scratch a modern lens than most people think. When it happens, it's usually during cleaning when a tiny piece of grit is on the surface and gets rubbed in by the cleaning cloth/lens tissue.

So the first step in cleaning a lens surface is to be sure you remove all dust and dirt without rubbing. The lens cleaning kit you can find in any camera store is a start -- it contains a blower brush. With the lens surface to be cleaned facing down (so dust falls away), brush gently with the tips of the bristles to dislodge stuff. Then use the blower to blow it away. Repeat as needed.

If you still see dust and dirt which seems to be stuck on the surface, take a piece of the lens tissue from the kit and put several drops of the cleaning solution on it, enough to get it pretty damp. (Always apply cleaning solution to the tissue or cloth, never drop directly on the lens surface.) Cover the lens surface with the damp tissue, pressing it into the corners, but do not slide the tissue across the surface. Just lift it away. Repeat with another section of tissue.

Then take a full sheet, wad it lightly, and wet it. You are going to rub lightly, using a roll-up motion as you move the tissue so that dust/dirt is lifted away from the surface and fresh tissue is always coming in contact with the surface. Repeat as needed until there isn't any visible stuff.

Final cleaning can be done with a fresh piece of tissue and a bit of mist from your breath. Mist the surface, and lightly polish with the tissue to remove any remaining cleaner residue.
