Accessing
network settings

To access the Network Settings area, follow the
steps for the version of the Xbox 360 Dashboard that you are using.
New
Xbox Experience Dashboard:
- From the Xbox 360 Dashboard,
select System Settings in the My Xbox area.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Configure Network.
Legacy Xbox 360
Dashboard:
- From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, move to the System blade.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Edit Settings.

Settings, you will be on the Basic
Settings tab, which contains your IP and DNS settings. When
you select the IP Settings block, you
are prompted to select an Automatic or
Manual configuration. If you select Automatic, the Xbox 360 console will try to
automatically determine your IP settings from your network or from your
modem or Internet service provider (ISP). This option is recommended
for most users.
You may have to or prefer to manually configure
the IP settings, especially when a static IP address is used. This is
necessary only if your ISP has issued a static IP address, or if you
have configured the router to issue static IPs (and DHCP is not used).
To manually configure the settings, select Manual,
and then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway
by using the keyboard on the screen. When the information is
complete, select Done.
DNS settings,
primary and secondary DNS servers

After you select either Configure
Network or Edit Settings, you

contains your IP and DNS settings. When you select the DNS Settings block, you are prompted to select Automatic or Manual

settings from your network or from your modem or ISP. This option is

configure the DNS settings, especially in scenarios in which a static
IP address is used or where DHCP is not available or not offered by the
ISP. To manually configure the settings, select Manual,
and then enter the primary and secondary DNS server names by using the
keyboard on the screen. When the information is complete, select Done.
Note You do not
have to enter a secondary DNS server to connect to Xbox LIVE. A
secondary DNS server is required only if the primary DNS server has
technical problems.
Wireless settings

To configure your Xbox 360 console to connect to
your wireless network by using an Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, follow
these steps:
- Access Network Settings .
- On
the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Settings.
Note If the
wireless settings area does not appear or is unavailable, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge

While attempting to view the settings for a wireless
network connection, all the wireless functions appear to be disabled in
the Xbox Dashboard
- Follow the instructions to select your wireless network,
select your wireless network name, and then enter your wireless security
information.
- Select Done.
PPPoE settings

If your Internet service provider uses PPPoE
authentication, you have to enter the settings in the Xbox Dashboard if
you have a direct connection through a modem. If you use a router or a
gateway instead, leave the PPPoE settings blank because the router
performs PPPoE authentication.
Note If your
ISP does not use PPPoE authentication, make sure that these settings
are blank. To learn whether your ISP uses PPPoE authentication and to
learn the correct PPPoE information, contact your ISP.To configure
the PPPoE settings on your Xbox 360 console, follow the steps for the
version of the Xbox Dashboard that you are using.
New Xbox
Experience (NXE) Dashboard:
- Move to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard by using one
of these methods:
- Press the Xbox Guide button on
your controller to open the Xbox Guide, scroll to the right to access Settings, and then select System Settings from the list of options.
- Select
the My Xbox channel, and then scroll to
the right to select System Settings.
- Select
Network Settings.
- Select Configure Network.
- On the Additional Settings tab, select PPPoE Settings.
- Use the keyboard on the
screen to enter the PPPoE information that was provided by your ISP.
- Select
Done.
- Select Back to return to the main Network Settings
area.
- Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection
to restart the test with the new PPPoE settings that you have
configured.
