- Thanks again jutkin. I tried your first suggestion and successfully identified one bad 128Mb memory module in a set of two used ones I had purchased. The max memory for this system is 256Mb so I was able to use an old 128 Mb module I had on hand to boot up and see that the system recognized all the RAM. I am a rookie with this stuff and really appreciate the practical help.
The symptom is telling you that either the memory you installed is either of the wrong type, incompatible, or is not sitting properly in its socket. Please check your user's manual for the exact type, speed, etc.
If you've added a second module, ensure it is of the correct type, even if it's not of the same size. Some laptops take increments well, eg: You can add a module of 512MB to an existing 1GB module. My Dell Inspiron 9100 does.
Using the same type gives you the double-buffering benefit provided by newer memory modules. A different type memory module may work, but it will not give you the benefit of faster memory access, if it works at all.
Good luck!

Umax 2200 usb scanner & Vistascan 3.55u in Windows XP Scanner installs to the default XP scanning software, but I have not been able to install the scanner so that it works with the Vistascan software. I much prefer Vistascan as it is much more user friendly & offers more flexibility. Any help would be appreciated.
