Ipod won't sync to Itunes

By misalou on Sep 01, 2007

" "
Hello,

I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable.

Someone on the Apple site suggested (to someone else with a simular issue) that this could be caused by locked files in the directory.

I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

I know how to sync my ipod, but the only thing is, until a couple of days ago everything was fine. But now whenever I go to "File" to select "sync ipod", then it's always faded! How do I fix this?? Someone please help me. The computer doesn't recognize my ipod when it's plugged in, and my ipod doesn't recognize that it's plugged in. I can't transfer any songs from itunes, so someone help me, please!!!

THE SOLUTION IS EASY, REBOOT YOUR IPOD! IT WILL WORK! I JUST SPENT DAYS GOING CRAZY ABOUT THIS!!! I CALLED APPLE TWICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO REINSTALL AND UPDATE BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING..
THEN I FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALL THEY DID WAS REBOOT THEY'RE IPOD. HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE AND MENU BUTTON ON YOUR IPOD, GIVE IT 10 SECONDS, LET IT BREATHE AND THEN PROCEED TO HOOK IT UP TO YOUR ITUNES(RESTART YOUR ITUNES AS WELL)... VOILA IT SHOULD WORK AND SYNC...

for anyone having trouble with the sync to ipod not working try this......... when you plug your ipod in be sure to check your "my computer" section and see if your ipod is registering to your computer. if it is then remember the drive letter (D:/, E/: etc...)
then go to itunes and go to the file menu and hit export library and select the drive letter that your ipod registered under.

Try resetting the ipod, this usually works.

As follows:

How to reset iPod

To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:

iPod nano (3rd generation)
iPod classic
iPod (5th generation)
iPod nano (2nd generation)
iPod nano
iPod with color display (iPod photo)
iPod (Click Wheel)
iPod mini
iPod mini (2nd generation)
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

Good luck, and I hope this helps.

I had the same problem and tried most of the solutions with no luck. When I tried to "sync" I kept getting the "69" error code about midway throught the process. I noticed that it kept coming up on 1 certain song everytime on my library. So I just went into the library and found that song and "deleted it" and the next try on syncing it worked and recovered all my songs. Prior to doing that I did reset my ipod and checked manually manage songs prior to syncing it again. I had gone weeks with half my library and was about to give my 30gb away. At least that is what worked for me !!! Try any or all of the solutions on this site...APPLE Support was NO HELP at all !!!

Use winamp instead of itunes. Download apple ipod plugin. Then I use this program to sync all of music, podcasts, and video. It works better then Itunes. I don't get anymore errors trying to sync files or that can't write to disk.

Hello,

I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable, or do not exist.

I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked.

Any ideas? Thanks!!
