Picture faded with white broken lines

Hi there. my sons nintendo ds has a few problems. not sure if they are related. (he swears he didnt drop it but i think he may have) the picture on both screens is very faded with white broken lines going across. it also has a crackling noise coming from speakers even when sound is turned down. it is not under warranty.i have opened it up myself after having purchased the correct screwdrivers, but to no avail. i cant see anything loose or corroded. has anyone any ideas. many thanks.

Re: picture faded with white broken lines

Hi, the problems you describe are indeed related... the cable that carries the data from the lower section (mainboard) to the top screen is also responsible for the sound and the speakers are connected to this cable near the top LCD screen. It sounds like the cable has become damaged and will need replacing which unfortunatley means a new top screen due to the way the cable is connected to the screen. I come across this problem frequently and I charge customers £35 for a replacement screen and fitting.

Hi Tristan,
Does the ds still turn on, which hinge is broken? Left, right or both as you open the lid?(very carefully though if you damage the ribbon cable for the top screen it'll need replacing for sure.

Son dropped ds and the cover is broken off but the wires are stil in place. whends is turned on it is green but fades out in a second.

This will definetly need a professional repair. If you are looking for fast service, try they have good prices and have a warranty.

The described problem you have happens normally if you dropped the DS Lite. So thats why Nintendo states that it must have been dropped. It would be difficult to proof that it not has been dropped.

Nintendo DS lite - dropped

Might be worth taking it into a phone repair shop to see if they can replace the LCD screen. (yes, a phone repair shop - a lot of them do portable console screens too!) If they can't do it, it's probably unfixable realistically.

Top Screen of DS has faded to white

if he dropped it then the bottom should not show up as well. the bottom screen you can play the older games plus get instructions for the new games. if they are both out then it is the motherboard. if it is top only, it is the lcd screen and you can get that replaced for about $45. find a place to fix it or send it to nintendo. thanks, connie
