My sashiko keeps breaking thread. I've by trading out different bobbins,I'm using Aurifil 50/2 thread. I've changed the needle and the wire. I sewed yesterday & retreaded the machine about 125 times.

Sometimes the thread is not compatible with the material. Or wrong size or blunt needle. Or old thread. Different thread in the bobbin and top. Hope this helps:)

Br VX950 machine does not pick up bobbin thread

First, make sure the bobbin-winding spindle (located on top of your machine) has been pushed back to the left for sewing. If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread. ... Make sure the presser foot is up when seating the thread through the upper tension.....

My Ruby Viking will not pick up bobbin thread

Install a brand new needle. A bent/damaged needle sometimes will not pick up the bobbin thread.

Verify the machine is threaded correctly.

If it still will not pick up the bobbin thread, most likely it is a needle/hook timing issues. There are many web sites and videos online explaining sewing machine timing. Or take it for service.

I want a longer straight stitch (mine only goes up to 5) on Janome MC 4900, to mimic hand quilting look.

There are several models of machines that do a longer stitch, usually called a basting stitch. Unfortunately, your machine does not have this function. If you are looking for a machine that will give you a hand quilted look, the Baby Lock Sashiko can give you that, though it doesn't do anything else.

Top thread will not pick up bobbin thread. If it

Check the needle to be sure it is inserted with the flat side of the needle shank to the back of the machine.

If this is not the problem, the machine may need the timing adjusted. This is best done by a sewing machine tech.
