I have this machine for more than 30 yrs-- when this happens, the top thread is not pulled through the little disks correctly when you go up before getting to the arm. Here is a threading diagram

SOURCE: replace a motor belt for sewing machine

The top tension is dependent not just on the tension dial, but also on the little disks that you go through to thread the machine. If it is not threaded correctly, you will get bunching underneath. Sometimes I just have to rethread the machine-- when you get to the disks- hold the thread taut and push it through the disks before going up to the arm part. Here is a threading picture I found- but it doesn't point out the disks too much. Once the machine is stitching nicely, then the tension dial can be used to flatten out the stitches.

Singer model 478 does not pick up bobbin thread, lower belt around 3 gears does not turn under power. What do I need to Know?

Hi,
There is a shaft that runs from the top of the machine to the bottom, in turn driving the bottom gear and belt. Though it is hard to see, you will probably find that the gear at the top of that shaft has the teeth broken. It is not impossible to change but definitely difficult.

What inch is the belt that goes around handwheel of sewing machine Singer Merritt 8734, Thanks

If you will go to the Singer Sewing Machine site, and enter "parts list" in the search box, you can download the parts list for your machine. To replace a part, you need the parts number.

I'm going to give you the direct link to it below. You will find the belt on page 13, #50 - Drive Shaft Belt, part #421035-001. Chances are, that belt goes on many different models of machines, and it is likely that it is available. Go to Singer Parts Online, and either email or call them to see if they have it or can get it for you. http://parts.singerco.com/CPpartCharts/8_89999/8734_8834.pdf

How do i fix the timing on my sewing machine

To do it properly you'll need the service manual. You can buy one (it's dowloadable!) here:
http://www.sewnotretail.com/service-manual-for-singer-commercial-grade-cg500-cg550-cg590-sewing-machine/

I was having the same problem and this worked out beautifully. I also adjusted the needle drive shaft height before I reset the timing. While you're at it, check the hook timing belt tension.

My sewing machine isnt stitching is theTiming is off between upper and lower shafts.? i have only had it a day from brand new! have re-done everything..please help Problem with the Singer Confidence...

Return it to the store that you bought it and get another one. If, you bought it from a regular dealer, like JoAnn Fabrics they will help you out. You are under warranty, so if necessary take it to the authorized repair center. It should be free.

Singer Model 5050 Timing Problem

Actually, timing of needle vs, shuttle is not very easy job several factor you should check on.There is belt ot sometime a shafting with worm gear and helical gear under machine w/c drive the shuttle with the bobbins in timing order,Any one of them is present on the timing adjustment can be done by releasing the belt or the helical gear, besure machine is unplug then set all mechanism on low dead center meaning the needle move to utmost lower position catching this by the shuttle and bobbins at center position. No motion applied if this was set up,engage the belt with pulley and the bobbins link holder tigh allenscrew besure the needle is lower dead center at the center of shullle bobbins catching needle without motion when setting back at original position. If this was made manually move it on handwheel going up and side down the needle gradually if the needle move freely several time and it was catching this by the shuttle hook bobbins.if ok put thread bobbins and upper thread dial tension with the needle.Move machine on handwheel try to catch the bobbins thread,If this so your machine is ready to sew again if problem occurs on alignment repeat adjustment on perpect alignment, besure all parts on upper casing of machine specially two drive gear are in normal alignment.
