Hi
hope you have fixed the problem by now. However - the question mark ppears when teh machine cannot find a startup disk. It looks like a problem with your harddisk . Start uo from the CD that came with the machine and use the "disc tool" to try and repair your hard drive. maybe you can find some instructions here

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods.
1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor.
2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. Computer start, but screen is blank and the scroll lock indicator lights up?

Scroll lock has nothing to do with the screen image.
The only way to check the screen is to plug in an external monitor and press the function button followed by the appropriate F key to switch between internal and external screens (normally F5 or F8 which ever the key could be marked with a screen icon.
Three presses one to switch to external second press both screens third press back to normal.
Hope this helps

When pluging in an exterior monitor, nothing apears on the exterior monitor?

Try power up the monitor first then the notebook.
This will automatically switch the video output to the external video port first. If this doesn't work then most likely there is a video card fault.

Secondary monitor from a Laptop

If your laptop doesn't automatically detect the external monitor, there will be a function key you need to press to activate the external monitor connector. It's often on the top row of keys, but different manufacturers put their function keys wherever they like. The key will normally have a marking that looks like a little monitor screen. Connect your external monitor, hold down the F or Fn key and press the monitor key when you find it. Usually the first press will turn on the external monitor and turn off the laptop screen, then the second press turns the laptop screen back on. Some brands or models may not turn off the laptop display, though.
