Well, I'm only a few days into my new machine but as far as I can tell so far everything is great. It looks like the ultimate solution is to return it and get another one.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5520 does not start up, power light blinking green
I think it might be the motherboard, if its not regulating the voltage properly then to much will go thru the motherboard and the fan won't be able to cool things down properly. Eventually then the motherboard will fail and then no video like your having now.
Try these steps anyway just to be sure:
only hook up the AC Adapter keep the battery disconnected. See if it turns on, if you still get a blinking green light then go ahead and turn the laptop off.
At this point, unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Try turning on the laptop after each stick reinsertion.
If that doesn't do it then disconnect the hard drive and the dvd drive from the laptop.
Then try turning on the laptop, if you still can't get video then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.
At this point at least you would know for sure.

oops, registry "leaks" not leads. The one about user profiles causing a registry issue.
