SOURCE: control locked

If yours is a GE JVM1640 or similar GE model, here's what the owner's manual says:

To lock or unlock the
controls, press and hold
CLEAR/OFF for about
three seconds. When the
control panel is locked,
an “L” will be displayed
to the extreme right.

SOURCE: GE microwave oven - f3 error

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

SOURCE: GE Microwave Keypad or Control Panel

If some pads on the keypad are not working, then you have a failed keypad.

On this model, the cover will have to come off to replace the light bulb. If it's mounted in the wall, it will have to come down.

The installation instructions are nice to have in this case. You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

I have attached a drawing to show where the bulb is on this model. It is located on the right side of the oven next to the wall of the cooking cavity.

The bulbs are available in local grocery stores, hardware stores, and stores like Wal-Mart and Lowe's.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

How do I fix the key pad of a Kenmore microwave model 401.80084700?

I don't know of anyway to repair the keypad. Usually replacement (of the keypad/control console) is the only option. But you might want to remove the ribbon cable that connects the keypad to the control board behind it, clean it with a degreaser (like Fantastic or 409), dry it, and re-insert it, and then try again. (Remember to unplug the microwave oven first before you try that!)

The "SE" error indicates a shorted membrane keypad.

You can find support from Samsung in India here.

I have a GE microwave and F3 has just come up on the display screen???

F3 Shorted key panel (touch pad).
1. Will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds.
2. Replace key panel (touch pad).

What you can first try before replacing the keypad is first unplugging the microwave. Then you can get access to the panel by first removing the top grill and then unscrew the top of the control panel. There is a strip that looks like tape which attaches to the control panel which you need to wipe off and then blow dry. may not work the first time but be patient. also clean the bottom of the door and the latches to make sure the connection is clean. After that is should hopefully work without replacing the touch pad.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Key pad lockout and load beeps

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

Since it's a basic counter top microwave, this may not be worth repair when you consider the cost of a new comparable unit.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

The part number of your keypad is
WB27X10624 and you can get it here for $51.37 plus shipping.

Good luck!

Key pad not working

Hi there,

First of all try this - - unplug Microwave and remove the back panel to gain access the the control panel. There is a ribbon connector that connects keypad to control. Remove the key pad from control and use a pencil eraser and clean the end of this ribbon connector wher it fits into control . Reconnect and see if that corrects the problem, If this will not works then You'll have to replace the control (key pad control).

Good Luck!!

Thanks

I report from owner manual.

F3 means : Short circuit on key panel (your touch pad).
You get F3 error if a shorted key panel is detected for more than 60 seconds.
Solution: . Replace key panel (touch pad).

Try first unpluggign power cord for five minutes.

If you think that the problem may had been caused by water inside the keypad you can try using an hairdryer on the keypad, taking care not to melt the keypad plastic.
If that does not work, then replace the keypad.

Touch-pads unresponsive

Some newer models have a child lock feature which can be accessed via a HELP or CUSTOM HELP pad. On recent LG models, try pressing the "0" key for 5 seconds. You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Has anyone ever sprayed cleaner directly on the keypad? Has anyone ever boiled on the stovetop without running the hood vent fan? Is the hood vent clogged? Any of these can cause moisture buildup on the control circuit board or in the keypad, which can cause odd problems like this. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (since paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. Please let me know if I can help further: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Control Panel not working

If it has a CUSTOM HELP pad (and that pad is working!) you should be able to press that to access the help menu. Child Lock may be the first item. If so, you're all set. If NO keys work, and the light comes on when you open the door, you probably have a problem with the keypad. Those can be replaced. An unresponsive keypad may be worn out due to age, may be damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Moisture and contamination can be caused by spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Instead apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. If the keypad or controller has gotten wet, it can sometimes be carefully blown out with compressed air or heat. Another thing is to unplug the power at the mains for several seconds por minutes. Plug it back in and see if it works. A reset may do it. At power-up, the display should flash or show a text message. If not, a key may be stuck due to a foreign substance or a defective keypad. If certain keys are not working, there may be some foreign substance at the point where the green or blue plastic strip from the keypad plugs into the circuit board. To check that: 1. Be sure the oven is disconnected from the power line while you are taking it apart. 2. The keypad connection is the green or blue translucent plastic strip that plugs into a connector near the edge of the board. 3. There are two tiny tabs (one on each side) of the connector that you can gently pull up on to unlock the connector. 4. Then the keypad strip will lift out. Clean both sides of the end of the strip with alcohol-based cleaner if you like, but do not use ammonia-based cleaner. Dry the end of the strip. 5. Put the keypad strip back in, making sure both sides are down fully. 6. While holding the strip down, push the connector back down to lock it. 7. Try the keys again with the door closed. If you still need help, or need part ordering info, please repost. I appreciate your rating this answer.
