Question about Boating

1991 8hp evinrude, E8REIA

My drive shaft has excessive pitting from salt water use. The lip seal no longer functions due to the pitting. I can't find the drive shaft from any retailers or salvage yards( 15" driveshaft) Do you know of any effective repairs?

I have a 1973 evinrude 25 hp motor that does not circulate water through. I took out the water pump and the rubber propeller is in good shape.Any other ideas?

look at the prop part closely

see if the water flushes fully through the block without the pump fitted
seals
blocked gauze/water pick up fouled

i know these corrode even with the best of flushing
make sure the pump drive shaft is spinning with the base of the motor sometimes the shaft spline will splinter or break

I need to replace the prop seal on a 1987 50hp evinrude

you need to disassemble your gear case, remove the prop shaft, and then replace the seals. however, if you are careful, it is possible to hook them out with a screwdriver and reinstall them but you need to be carefull not to damage the prop shaft . if you do the new seals will leak. also be sure to put some sealer around the outside of the seals before installing them and a little bit of grease on the inside lips.

on the dist shaft there is an oring that seals at the engine if you remove your cap and then mark your dist so that you dont change the timing ,then remove the distributor and you will see the oring on the dist shaft ,replace it ,they get flat and hard and wont seal any longer ,good luck !

Hi there need to replace the final drive seal on a 450crf x,is this straight forward? or do I need someone elses hands.Appreciate any info.

It is a one man job. Just remove the sprocket bolt, washer, sprocket and collar. Clean the area around the shaft and clean the shaft, then pry the old seal out any way you can. Put the new seal in straight (not at an angle). The seal should be flush with the case surface. Put some grease on the inner lips of the seal before mounting.

Top rating due on this answer! Thanks Hugh!

Leaking Rear Transmission Seal

Did you use a motorcraft seal? aftermarket seals are not as good, the factory seal is double lipped as far as I remember.
