Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and therefore isn't secure. I'd recommend considering purchasing a new computer, as they start out in the $200-500 range.

Alternatively, you could look into using a modern Linux operating system, instead of Windows XP on your current computer. An easy to use, free distribution is called Ubuntu and can be downloaded from here. https://www.ubuntu.com/
NOTE: Before installing, back up your files and settings.

To solve your browser problem only, you might see if you can get an alternative browser. Here are a few, but I'm not sure if any are still able to run on Windows XP:

Mozilla Firefox Browser
Download Firefox Free Web Browser

Opera Browser
Opera browser The fast safe web browser Download free

Google Chrome Browser
Google Chrome

Truly speaking IE8 is the worst browsers MS has ever developed (No offense but its true) I would suggest you to go back to IE 7. Moreover you can use Firefox/Opera/Chome browser. If you are looking for some light browser go for Chrome/Avant. But brfore using any of the browser roll back your IE8 to previous version because it might corrupt our windows. Hope it will help you. Thanks.

Internet shuts it self off

Whereas Internet Explorer is a very popular browser, you may have problems with it from time to time. Internet Explorer has been known to either randomly shut down or close pages. This can be extremely irritating, especially if you are in the middle of a project. Use these tips to fix Internet Explorer if it keeps closing Web pages.

Start by deleting your browsing history. Open Internet Explorer and click the "Safety" tab found in the top right corner of the Web browser. Then, choose the "Delete Browsing History" option. A box will appear on the computer screen. Make sure that there are checkmarks next to each option listed in the box. Click the "Delete" tab to delete the browsing history. Move to the next step if Internet Explorer keeps closing pages. Download, install and then run both an anti-malware and an anti-virus software program. http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4281&file=1&evp=dbb3b0aebe6a6a4ff18089a6489a5e62 anti malware free edition Win XP/2003/Vista/Windows7 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Security_Essentials_for_Windows_d6242.html microsoft security essentials your operating system must be registered Spyware, adware, viruses and other similar infections can cause Internet Explorer to shut down or close pages. Try resetting the Internet Explorer settings. Open Internet Explorer and then click "Tools." Choose "Internet Options." Click the "Advanced" tab. Then, click "Reset" found at the bottom of the box. A second box will appear on the screen. Click the "Delete personal settings" option and then click "Reset." You will need to restart Internet Explorer to finish the process. Go to the next step if Internet Explorer continues to close pages. Run Windows Update. Open Internet Explorer and click the "Safety" tab in the top right corner of the Web browser. Select the "Windows Update" option. You will be taken to the Windows Update Web page. Click the "Express" tab on that age. Windows Update will then check for any updates. Click the "Install Updates" tab to install any of the recommended updates. Hope this helps.

This would be an issue within Internet Explorer. Best bet would be to reset Internet Explorer which is really easy to do. With Internet Explorer open click on tools in either the upper left or right corner. Then click Internet options. A new window should open with multiple tabs across the top. Click on the last tab which should be be advanced. Towards the very bottom of this page you would have either a reset or restore defaults button. Click this button which will reset Internet Explorer to it's original settings. You will not loose any of your favorites. If this does not fix the problem then you may need to update or reinstall Internet Explorer.

Internet explorer will not open

try to do system restore 2 - 3 days from the time you first experience the problem.

to do system restore ( for windows xp) click start, click all programs, click accessories, click system tools and click system restore. click next and after that you will be able to see a calendar with dates that is bold form, it means that those bold dates are your usable restore points and choose the restore point 2 - 3days from the time you first experience the problem then click next or restore. after that the computer will process the system restore and will restart automatically, if the system restore is successful click the finish button if not just click ok and try another restore point.

---------------------------------

if that doesnt work try to go to safemode w/ networking, at that mode try to use your internet explorer.

to go to safemode w/ networking shutdown the computer completely. turn it on again after 10 - 20 secs, as soon as you see the dell screen immediately tap the " F8 " key continuously. if that is successful you be in the windows advance menu option screen. use your up and down arrow key in your keyboard to navigate, choose the safemode w/ networking and hit enter twice. log in to your account or name ( not the administrator ) just to check if you are in the safemode w/ networking, there will be safemode word in each corner of your screen and the desktop background is black.

if you are using windows xp and you are internet explorer 8, try to uninstall the internet explorer 8.

to uninstall the internet explorer 8, follow the instructions below
- click start
- click control panel
- click add/remove programs
- navigate and look for the internet explorer 8, click it then click remove and restart the computer after.

Keyboards wont work

Try hitting the Tab key from the web page address. If you can type then, it sounds like you've got a mouse pointer problem. Also try changing your search engine. Left click on the Yahoo symbol, then "Manage Search Engines" and select a different search program (Google, Amazon, e-bay, etc).

Since you can type, it's not a keyboard problem.

You may also want to try dragging your browser to a different part of your screen and trying to type with the window in a different part of the display. It's unlikely, but you may have a bad touchpad that doesn't recognize the upper right corner, so moving it to a different part of the display may isolate that problem, remote though it is.
