My friend has a 50inch philiphs tv the sound works but no image is there anything anyone could advised

Is it a LCD type screen? If it is, look close, is there no backlight, or its lit with no image? If its no backlight, the screen backlight inverter is bad. If there's backlight with no image, can be the display, connection cable or mainboard.

You can hold a flashlite to see the screen, i was told it might be the light bar or inverter can you plz tell me what the problem is before i spend to much money

Ok if you can see the image when you show a flashlight to it means that the backlight is not working, it could be a simple problem as the backlight power cable loose inside or in worst case the backlight completely damaged. Best to take it to a service center and they will be able to tell you what happened. Hopefully it's just a loose cable. As LCDs do not produce light themselves they need illumination (ambient light or a special light source) to produce a visible image. Backlights illuminate the LCD from the side or back of the display panel.Backlights are used in small displays to increase readability in low light conditions. You can search for info on Backlight to learn more about it.

When i switch on my laptop I see the led lights on but the screen is blank. I do not even see the hp icon that shows up initially

Hello !

It is typically the display's backlight or inverter board.

If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim on you rather than a slow degradation the inverter would be indicated.

Hope this helps.

Viewsonic vp2000s LCD computer monitor - no image displayed; possible backlight outage.

It is possible that the backlight has quit working. Use a flashlight, held at an angle to the display, to see if there is a faint image visible. If so, then have backlight repaired. Otherwise, try a different input / cable.

When I turn on my Akai, I sometimes get a clear picture and then it fades out I still see what I'm watching but its faded out, the people on the tv look florescent

This could be the backlight failing (most often the images will tend to go pink). If the TV is out of warranty, you can replace the backlight(s) yourself. lcdparts.net has many backlights but you need to match the length and width to the original. Next you need to open up the back of the TV and carefully remove the old backlight(s). The backlights are on the perimeter of the TV (laptop screens started with one but most TVs have several to maintain an even lighting of the image).) The removal takes some work and paying attention to how the original is put together. The backlights are often molded into the frame of the TV and a Dremel or other rotary tool is needed to get the backlight out. Google backlight replacement for videos, pictures and descriptions of the process.

I hope this helps.

D600 Latitude laptop - LCD showing ghost/dim images

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you seethe normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and theproblem is the backlight.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dimimage and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faultyLCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltageto the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burntout, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

HP Pavillion F1503 screen has gone dark...background is very, very faint, barely able to see/read it. What is the problem? If it is a ''backlight'', then what exact is a backlight, what does it do, is it...

Most of the time in this situation, the problem is due to the backlight going out. However, there are some instances where the inverter cable is bad.

The backlight is the part of the LCD which illuminates the screen. Think of an LCD as having multiple layers. One layer has the image itself on a semi-transparent layer and then behind that layer rests the backlight (usually a florescent bulb) which shines through all other layers to make the image glow and illuminate.

More info can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlight

As far as replacing the backlight, I always replace the whole LCD itself, which includes the backlight.

Otherwise, you risk ordering the backlight and finding out that it was the connection from the backlight to the LCD that was causing the problem (very possible) and then you would have to order the LCD anyway.

Backlight is off

You either have a bad LCD or bad backlight board. The backlight on your screen is no different than a light bulb. If it burn out it stops working, if these is no power to the backlight your screen will have an image but no backlight to see the image.
