Bell Studio 4500 DECT phone with answering machine: just out of warranty, this phone does everything properly up to entering a number, then dialling, BUT not producing a ringing-tone or getting through to the destination-number; Ihave followed every reinstall & problem work-around per the original instruction-manual!! NB: an "other"-brand DECT phone works perfectly from the same power-/line-point in the house

I doubt it's the battery. As I understand it the base works fine and the problem is only with a cordless phone. Are you using an external charger stand for the cordless handset? These phones need to be registered to the base unit. That is usually done by installing the cordless phone in the base unit but you may need to do that shortly after insalling the battery or you could have a register button or setting.

I had the same problem and my hubby managed to reset the phone by simply unplugging it from the electical network. Just wait for few minutes (the date goes back to 1 Jan 2005), then plug it again and try to dial a number. It should work.
