How to restore to factory settings, hp desktop pavilion 1993

There are two ways to do this. 1st. Using the recovery partition already installed on your hard drive. 2nd. Creating recovery disc by launching the recovery disc creator. It is highly recommended that when purchasing a new computer a set of recovery discs be may as a factory back up in case your hard drive fails. You should make your recovery discs first. That will require at least 3 DVD blanks. Tell you what, you make the discs first and I'll explain how to use both methods. Click your start button and find a folder called maintenance. The location and name of the folder varies by each computer manufacture as to where they file the recovery disc creator program. I believe It's in the maintenance folder. Open it and there you should find the program. Simply run the program and follow instructions. computershack.leo@gmail.com Good Luck

Call of duty 2 will not load on windows 7

Run the Program Compatibility Wizard

  1. Open the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_47.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Use an older program with this version of Windows.
  2. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the wizard, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.
To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.

How do I reset my laptop to factory settings without losing any of my data and programs,,,,can somebody help me?

You can save your data like ms files, pictures, videos, etc (except the programs to a removable disc, usb flash drive, external hard drive and any other storing devices before doing the complete factory settings reset.

For the programs, you can just reinstall them by using the installation discs.

i am sorry to give u bad news, game CM is game that need disc to run the game because a lot of stuff that still need to run the program left behind in the disc. it was factory setting.

But u can use alternative way by make the disc to image then run it with daemon tool.
first u need program that can make image file like .iso, .nrg, etc. ( i use nero)
make an image file from CD 1 and CD 2 and save it in computer.
second install program that can make image drive to run image disc (i use daemon tool).
make one image drive then mount the image disc to the drive.
now u can play without real disc. (after finished play the game unmount the image disc)

First... try to use the MS Fixit (for Vista) if you are on the computer having the problem)...

Otherwise, here are the manual steps (overview):

1) Uninstall the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and DO NOT RESTART the computer.

2) Uninstall your CD burning software (make sure you have the installation disc or you can resinstall from Start, Programs, PC Help and Tools, Recovery Manager (or Driver/Application Recovery). If you don't have the installation discs, skip this step - it might still work).

3) Open the registry editor (Start -> Run -> enter Regedit) ... might want to make a backup of the registry at this point.

4) Open the following keys:

+ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+ SYSTEM
+ CurrentControlSet (or the current control set with lowest number if that is all that is listed)
+ Control
+ Class

5) Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. It has to be this exact key - make sure you can see the last numbers!!!

6) Delete the UpperFilter and or the LowerFilters value in the right window if either exists.

7) RESTART the computer - this step is important. Wait for Windows to find and install the CD/DVD drive you removed earlier.

8) Reinstall your burning software and restart the computer again.

How to install outlook

You need to install Microsoft Outlook? The Email program? Thats simple, do you have the software for the program?

If so just follow these steps:

Insert the disc into your optical drive (aka cd drive)
you can either wait for the program to auto run or if it doesn't have that you can click on your start button click "My computer" and then if the disc is being recognized correctly in your cd drive just double click it and you should see a name of a program called "autorun.exe" or "setup.exe" or something like one of those. Double click it and it will begin the installer. Just go through the installation wizard and soon you'll have MS Outlook up and runing!

I put my hard drive from my hp into a dell that had hard drive problems also and it erased my hard drive. how do I set up the operation again?

You will need to call dell and order a set of recovery discs, unless you created a set when you first got the laptop. If you already have a set, then put disc no.1 in the drive and restart the laptop and let it run, It may take several hours for this to complete, when the screen comes up with the button "finish" then click on the button and your laptop will restart. When it starts up again it will finish installing the programs, do not touch it until it asks you to set the date, time, and language. Then just follow the prompts and set it up again.

Cant get programe disc to load

Hi,
Goto "my computer" -> right click on CD drive/DVD drive icon and select open. you will find all the contents present in the CD. Browse to appropriate folder where your program is located and run its setup.exe file to start installation. this is how you can do it manually. I hope this solves your problem.

Drive not responding

Windows uses autorun or autoplay to detect removable discs such as cds and dvds.

Some cd and dvdroms, especially software installers, have an autorun.inf file which forces the disc to start.

Firstly Autoplay. Your media player may have been set to disable this function so your discs do not automatically run. Or you may have several suitable media players installed, but you haven't set one as your default player. Make sure you choose a default player, then set it to automatically run when a disc is inserted.

Secondly, you should be able to manually run the disc by going to My Computer then left click the dvd or cd drive. You may be prompted to select a player or program to run the disc.

Thirdly, "autorun" may have been disabled in registry.
You can check this by looking at the following key in registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveAutoRun
This will be followed by Bit 0 for drive A and Bit 1 for drive B etc. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS, DO NOT TOUCH REGISTRY!!!

Fourthly, as kykeaton says, you may have a faulty drive.

autorun may have been deliberately disabled in registry.
