Blaupunkt ODW1200 Car Speaker
Problem for Blaupunkt ODW1200 Car Speaker

Placement of subwoofer is car/truck.

Guys,
I've got two 12's Eclipse being pushed by a Phoeneix Gold xs2500 amp in
a sealed box.
These subs are facing the hatch of my Blazer.  If you can picutre this,
from the front of my truck to the hatch, is all open space.  My subs
pound the hell out of me. Hair movement and all.
My buddy has 3 Blaupunkt 12's sealed in the trunk of his cavalier.
Since the rear chairs are forming a seal between the trunk and the car
interior, he does not pound as much.
I guess the car interior with respect to the trunk makes allot of
diffrence.  There is no way I will be throwing in more subs in fear of
deafness.

This also has to do with the "transfer function" of your vehicle. This
term gets watered-down and misused quite a bit in car audio, since it
has much larger meaning in the engineering world. But, put really
simply, your vehicle's interior has an effect on the frequency response
of your system. I had 2 Boston Pro 10's in a sealed box, and taking them
from the trunk of my car to the back of my friend's blazer made a HUGE
difference.
The large open space in your vehicle can act to create a hump in the low
frequency response much larger than that created by a small vehicle.

So, in any case, I think the difference you are seeing is due to:
1. The difference's in the vehicle's transfer functions.
2. The difference in speakers.
3. The difference in the box sizes (you could be optimized for SPL while
your friend's box is optimized for SQ, given the T/S parameters of each
sub).

I am not too convinced that the seats blocking the subs is the problem
with your friend's car, though...low frequency bass can pass through
solid rock for cripe's sake... (ever had your neighbor's home stereo
piss you off? remember what sounds you heard from it? BASS) It just may
be that facing the rear seat is not the optimum location for the subs in
his car, but I don't think the seat itself has anything to do with
it...he should try facing them up, toward the back, etc to see what
sounds best...

In article <8ECFEBBB0skank @128.168.128.1>, teamam @aol.comSPAMSTER

It sure does to me.  I think all these 'blow' punkt advocates have more
than likely never plugged one in.  I have a Sydney 7 series Blau right
now and it is IMO an excellent head.  Their newer line of digiceivers
are the best tuners on the market...  Perhaps they do lack sub
controllers, etc. but they are solid heads.  Without argument, they
aren't IASCA winning decks -- but for their price point, they pack one
hell of a punch.

I challenge those who haven't tried them to give it a listen before you
talk about plops, fizzes, and silly cut outs at high SPL lvls...

Also...  Bosh has paramount tech support...  they have mailed me
schematics, sent me replacement keycards, sent manuals, and offered
advice...  ask yourself if you get that kind of support at your corner
store...

Okay...  their amps suck sticks...  this much I will admit.

Andrew.

I was reffering to the speakers, I praised the head units, but had to
compare them to Eclipse (so the only fair comparison of force to make
a head unit skip was SPL @ specific frequency)

that's waht i was making fun of..
BLAU!! goes the speakers =)

damn right.

I've explained my reasoning for my previous comments [see above]

In general
Blaupunkt is the low cost-effecient design.. they're a lower line
than eclipse..(here's a reference, Eclipse head units
don't skip until you hit about 154dB SPL @ 51hz, whereas
the blaupunkt brand makes it up to about 135dB SPL)

the name blaupunkt came from running 300W through an 8 in sub.
the bass went "blau!" and then "punkt" it blew.
(it's german, don't ya know?)

I run all infinity (cuz it gets the job done and I get discounts)
I have Infinity Reference 6.5's in all 4 spots (ranger 99, x-tended cab,
lease) that i run off the Xcelon 711 head unit (no seperate amps for me,

lease again)
and one Kappa Perfect 12 (low MD for great in-cab sound)

x-overs @  80 hz.

It's not the seal, it's the lack of sonic transparency of the back seat.

also, why the hell would you compare Eclipse to Blaupunkt??
