siawolf I'm running DOS 6.22 I Thought (??) cards would be Plug & Play ??

some had to be jumpered to use specific irq's, which also have to be free or shared irq's. do these have settable jumpers on the isa cards? do you have the setup note that came with the cards?

WOW must be a fairly old system if it still has ISA slots.
Are you running XP or something else?

I assume you have the manufactures drivers that match the operating system you are using?

Have the isa cards worked in this system before?

My memory of isa cards is they are really useless at managing interrupts and I/O addresses. Go into device manager and see if there are any conflicts.

Try installing one card at a time. once it is recognised you can try the second one.

Also go into the bios settings page and turn off devices you are not using like serial ports and parrallel ports. if you have a sound card remove it or disable it if is onboard.

If you know what Interupt the cards is tyring to uses you should be able to reserve it in the bios so that plug and play devices won't touch it.

With a some trial and error and a combination of all these settings you should be able to figure it out.

My usb won't work or reconize anything I plug in

Try out MS Fixit. Use IE (Chrome did not filter correctly). Select Windows. Use USB as the filter. There should be 2 executables, and maybe some other solution. This a fairly new and dynamic site, so a little feed back would be great. http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/

A coma computer enthusiast has installed an old ISA sound card in his PC. However, it locks up and doesn?t work when a tape backup unit is used on the system. What is the most likely cause of the problem...

ISA is a very old technology and cards usually require switches or links to be set to avoid conflicts with other cards. ISA is not plug-n-play like PCI or PCI-e.
The software talks to an ISA card by knowing parameters such as IRQ number, DMA number, address range. These values may be permanently set on some cards, while others allow changing via the DIL switches or jumper links. To get two ISA cards working in one PC, the two cards need to use their own IRQ, DMA & address ranges. Make sure there are no conflicts of settings on the sound card and the tape drive card.
Try changing the settings on one of the cards. The tape drive may be the easiest for this. The tape drive is probably connected via a ISA to SCSI interface card. This should have DIP switches or Links to allow the above settings to be changed.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer

This is an older 16-BIT ISA interfaced Sound Card. Try this one as a replacement.

Sound Card

This will function as a cheap replacement that should run in your system.

Existing We have Onboard 1* 10/100Base-TX adapter + 3 * 10/100Base-TX add-on card +2 * clic interface cards and We want to upgrade to 1gbps network switch what hardware need to be procured

Examine the server's documentation (support.hp.com) and look at the motherboard to determine what slots you have available and their interface protocol. (E.g. ISA, PCI, PCI-E)

Then go to a computer part vendor like CDW.com and search using the "network adapter" "gigabit" and the interface.

Better yet, give them a call and let them search for you.

Most important, when you find physically compatible adapter, make sure that there are drivers available for the operating system you are using.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

MY XFX8500GT CARD WON'T FIT INTO ANY OF THE CPI SLOTS IN MY COMPAC PC,CAN I USE THE BLACK ISA SLOT?

That card is a PCI EXPRESS. Not the same as a PCI. Definetely wont work in your ISA either. PCI Express came out a few years ago and is a faster interface than PCI. Hope you can get your money back or exchange it for a PCI. Please remember to rate me if this fixedYa. Thanks.

How to use ISA Slot in PCI Slot

There is an adapter available if you look on computer sites for product purchases, try to google it as there or companies than make such items, might be harder to find as PCI and ISA are older connectors and even AGP is begin phased out an PCI express is the lading connector. Google ISA to PCI adapter and see what you can get your compangies to pruchases from. Your local computer hardware shop might have it call first and ask before driving out there, If you find nothing try calling Tigerdirect as they might have older stock, you never know, If to no avail you will have to try and locate an older Motherboard with the two conncectors on it and run that if possible, or find this certain ISA card you're talking about in PCI. Good luck! :)
