Re: did I buy the right router??

Ok, well this indeed will probably be OK.. If you like ya could ask YOUR ISP, pipex? for their Setup CD, OR perhaps they have it on their website? Basically ya connect the router up via Ethernet... then using ya browser navigate to the "Default" location, often,or, type in the "Routers Administration" password and logon.. often admin, admin ... but your manual will tell you. Then you can enter YOUR ISP details into the Routers Setup.. setting the ISP Address, Your logon & Password. save the settings and ya should be all good.. Below is a manual for ya unit.... enus_ds_dg834g_19april07.pdf

I use AOL as my ISP, with British Telecom supplying my telephone line rental. On Friday 2nd my internet connection kept dropping out, and then eventually stopped connecting altogether. My original router...

If BT tested the phone line is OK but did AOL test the connection to the Netgear router and get the IP address of your Netgear router.
The phone connection is OK but the ADSL connection from the telephone exchange may not be working, that is why you are not getting an ADSL light.

Router without disc

Normally, you can just plug it in and go. Most routers will allow connections with basic settings. IF you must have the easy-start disc, you can also get the program either online via download by searching on the manufacturer's website, or you can order the disc from the manufacturer.

You could also buy a new one, use the disc, then take it back to the store and say it's not "right for you". They'll return it and give you your money back.

Slower throughput having gone to talk talk

That is there way of saying they don't want to support that router or don;t want to accept their network is having trouble. If you do get another router and still have the same problems then they have no excuses.

UNINSTALL AOL DISC, immediately ....It a piece of crap. Why do you need to install aol disc on your pc?? when (assuming u have high speed connection, that's why you have wireless router) you have high speed.

Slow internet speeds whith 2700hg-b

You said that you downgrade your net speed from 6mb to
3-800kb. If you have 3-800kb of speed it's very slow, i would suggest to upgrade again.

BT Voyager 2091 Wireless ADSL Router - DROP OUT

If you face frequent drop outs confirm with your isp that it's not a problem with line...and also check the physical setup of broadband check if your router is connected to main socket of your house where telephone line enters in your house......
now when you face drop outs check on your hard wired comp whether you remain connected or not if no its a problem with line..
if no reconfig your bt router for wireless network change the channel of your wireless network either to 1 or 11...
or either there is one other way reset your router to default settings by pressing the pin at the back of your router..
and after that your router will start its default wireless network i.e a unsecure network..
try connecting to that network if still the same there are drop outs it's a problem with bt to config the router...
