The hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.

Trying to remove the hard drive in an old desktop, how do I do it?

Almost every computer manufacturer has their own way of installing hard drives on each system they make. You should look up your specific Gateway system at their website and look for service and support. There should be instructions posted. Given that Gateway is failing or has failed as a company there may not be any resources available. If that is the case you should take the computer to a computer service center for assistance.

I turn on the Gateway and the words Gateway come on screen, then it goes black. The keyboard is on then off then comes on again, Screen remains black.

You have a problem with the operating system. It has crashed. You will need to reinstall the operating system in your computer. Before you do that you need to back up your file in your hard drive. To do that you need a 2nd computer get a hard-drive closure external take out the hard drive of your gateway. and plug it in to the external closure and plug it in the computer and explorer and move the files you need to the other computer. After that put the hard drive back into the gate

Your computer came with a recovery disc. Use that to reinstall your computer and software. That will help your problem. Update your computer to make sure it doesn't fail again.

Normally, your laptop should be configured to boot up from the hard drive before trying the network boot up. When the hard drive fails or is no longer available, or the boot up sequence in BIOS Setup has been changed so that the network boot is set before the hard drive, the symptom you describe fails.
I would recommend that you do the following:
1. Check BIOS Setup & make sure the boot sequence is set in the correct order (Hard Drive 0 should be before Network Boot).
2. Make sure that the hard drive is seated properly in its slot & that all connections are tight.
3. Make sure that the hard drive powers up when you turn on the laptop.

If none of this helps, then your hard drive has failed.

My Gateway GT5404 Freezes

1. your hard drive may be at what is called the "end - of - life"
2. I suggest that you try to backup important files if you can get into the pc screen again.
3. PC freezing is sometimes due to a failing power supply, a failing hard drive, and or a depleted CMOS battery.

Gateway M-6340u laptop won't boot

the gateway hang indicates to things either a bios problem or a failing hard drive, sometimes when hard drives start getting old they take a while to spin up and/or has difficulty finding the boot sector, you also have corrupt files which would indicate a failing hard drive.

Try just restarting your computer the hard drive will already be warmed and spun up so the Gateway screen may pass faster.

Try running this prog to diagnose a failing hard drive,it will run in the background so just uninstall it your drives fine.

On the bios side the only thing I recommend trying are loading optimised defaults and Safe defaults.

You should back up your files regularly and be prepared to purchase a new hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive etc. when the hard drive eventually fails.

Gateway m 1625 operating system not found and its overheating

This means either the operating system on your hard drive has become corrupt and you will need to reinstall your operating system or, more likely, your hard drive has failed and you will need to replace the hard drive and the operating system.

As for your heat issue, use a can of compressed air and blow out all the vents on your laptop. This should help the heat issue; note that it is common for the laptop to feel hot as it is dissipating the heat from inside.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a thumbs up rating with a solved solution as I answered your questions. Thanks.!
