SOURCE: I have a Garmin GPS

If you can try first changing the battery of the unit to check if everything will be working fine, because there's a possibility that the battery went bad or worse the unit has some problem with it , if after changing the battery still have the same problem better have it replace and take the new unit Off Shore for your own good.

Hope that helps..........

What you need to do is to upgrade the gps device is to reset the system

The Garmin 255W is a GPS navigation unit that helps you determine your location and navigate to a destination by using data from the global positioning satellite network combined with onboard maps. It has a touch screen display. Type in the name of a place to find it on the map, and you will hear step-by-step instructions to get to the location. If the Garmin 255W is having a problem or if you want to erase the data recorded for recent trips or for the vehicle's fuel economy, you can easily reset it by following a few steps.

  1. Touch "Menu."
  2. Touch "View Map."
  3. Touch the "Speed" field on the display.
  4. Touch "Reset Trip." This resets the information in the trip computer.
  5. Touch "Tools," and then touch "ecoRoute." This is where you can enter information about your vehicle's average city and highway fuel economy and fuel type. If you want to reset the vehicle profile data, touch "Reset."
  6. Slide the "Power" key to the left position and hold it for eight seconds to reset the Garmin 225 if it is having a problem.
Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

  • Thing with these Garmin batteries is they go bad after sitting for a while without being used. I recommend plugging it in for 2 hours and then try turning it on and if it turns on it is the battery. Mine did the same thing. It won't hold a charge on it's own but for 20 minutes or so but works fine if I leave it plugged into the car. The reason I say to leave it plugged in for 2 hours before trying to turn it on is because the battery is so dead it will take a while to even get enough of a charge to turn on at all.

My garmin 545s does not turn on

My Garmin 545s would not power up. I took the unit to West Marine, where they had the correct cable to hook it up and test it. The unit immediately powered up and I purchased a $22 cable and installed it. Easiest test and fix I could come up with. Really cheap fix.

Easiest way is to take the unit to West Marine (or wherever they can do it), hook it to their cable, and see what happens. If it operates correctly, a cable is about $22 and in stock. Cheap fix and easy cable install. Call ahead to make sure cable is in stock.

Garmin nuvi 40 goes into usb mass storage mode when pluged to charge

I updated my Nuvi 40 with the latest software and it will not reboot into GPS mode with the usb cable connected. It used to work. I have figured out how to get it to charge with a standard USB cable:
1) Power it on.2) Press the battery icon for 8 seconds - it will enter TEST mode.3) Plug in your USB cable from the PC to the Nuvi - the screen will change to say charging.4) Press the power button 3 times rapidly - it will say Charging across the screen and it will go dim and then dark.5) To wake it up and use GPS mode while charging simply press the power button 3 times rapidly, again.
Works Great!

We have A Garmin 1300. It works fine for a while then the screen goes blank. We hold down the on button for a LONG while then the screen will come back up and make you go through several screens, but...

Be sure to update the firmware by running the Garmin WebUpdater.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

It is not necessary to unplug the vehicle power cable as the unit will shut down automatically if the vehicle power source is not supplying power after the vehicle is turned off. If the vehicle power cable does continue to supply power, then a manual shut down can be done with the power switch on the nuvi but it is still not necessary to disconnect the vehicle power cable.

Turn it on screen went blank will not come back on

Hello there:
First if this unit has a restet button it hold it in for 3 minutes and than try it if still nothing, the device has a fuse that is located on the inside of the unit that probablly has failed and needs to be replaced also you may want to make sure that the battery terminals are not loose and are clean.
You can also take it to a authorised dealer to have it bench tested ok?
best regards michael

Will not turn on

When holding the power button, to turn on the device, the screen pixelates dark and then goes blank. If I continue to hold the power button the screen will continue to pixelate dark and then go blank. In the end, the device still will not turn on.
