If you are trying to play music, then there could be only two problems.
1. Some DVD-RW can unintentionally trick you into thinking that they can play music, if inserted into the right machine. But really what it might really mean is that it can transport music, not play it.
2. The format of the file that you burned onto the disc may not be compatible with the type of DVD-RW that you have.

If you are trying to put an actually DVD/Movie onto the disc, then it is more than likely a format problem. I imagine that it may be really hard to get a video into the correct format so that it can be played on a DVD-RW.
I assume that whatever you are putting onto the DVD-RW is completely original. If it is not (such as a movie you got offline) then copyright laws will take all happiness out of your life.

The Easiest Way to Use DVD Shrink

DVD Shrink is a freeware DVD transcoder program for Microsoft Windows that uses a DVD ripper to back up DVD movies. The final versions are (english) and (german), all other versions like DVD Shrink 2010 are scams. As commercially-released video DVDs are typically dual layer one of DVD Shrink's functions is to process the video into lesser quality and/or discard extra content such as foreign-language soundtracks so as to fit on a single layer (4.7 GB) DVD.

DVD Shrink is freeware, and it is only to be used to create backup copies of DVDs you already own. It is illegal to make copies of rented or borrowed DVDs, or to copy them and sell them for profit. The reason we need DVD Shrink is because a regular DVD movie doesn't fit on the average 4.7gig size DVD disc, we use DVD Shrink to cut the contents down to size as to fit on the disk.

This article will provide you how can you use DVD Shrink to copy DVD movies step by step. All you need is a DVD Shrink software and you will be able to store and duplicate all your DVD discs.
To use DVD Shrink, Things you will need:
* DVD Shrink program
* A DVD movie to backup
* DVD blank disc

Guide: How to Use DVD Shrink 3.2

Step 1. Start the DVD Shrink Program and choose Open Disc from the menu above.

Step 2. A box will appear. Choose which DVD drive your disk is in. Mine is in F: drive. The name of the disk will show up in brackets. In this case it is called NEW.

Step 3. Press OK. It will read the DVD.

Step 4. Shrink DVD size.
1) A breakdown of the movie will be displayed in the right hand column.
2) You cannot fit all this on your blank dvd so now press Re-author.
3) In the right column there will be a heading called Main movie. There will be a file under this heading. Drag this to the left column. The file size is usually more than 4,700mb and has to be compressed.

Step 5. Click on the "Backup" icon. This is where you will choose a folder for your ripped files. Once you make a folder, make sure the box is checked next to "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders" and click "OK".

The movie will now play quickly in the viewing box, and you will see the progression of the rip. Even though, my iMac provides a 24" display, I prefer watching them on HDTV with the Blu-ray player.

When looking for the straightforward solution without transcoding the footage, I got Final Mate for Mac and Adobe Encore CS5 to complete the process. There is less quality loss when burning AVCHD to Blu-ray Disc on Mac, as no re-encoding is performed at any stage. I used Final Mate to trim and join the m2ts files for lossless output, and then import into Adobe Encore CS5 to author the final blu-ray disk.

Below is the quick guide for you to Author Sony NEX-VG10 AVCHD to Blu-ray with no re-encoding for Blu-ray Player.

Step 1. Join M2TS into one file.
As we do not want any re-encoding, we can select multiple files from the Resource tab, drag and drop to timeline. Make my memorex mvd2040 play homemade dvds (avi files on a disc ) ?

In order for you to make the unit read home movies, you haveto make sure the AVI files are being converted to a DVD format. If the video isnot transcoded to that format, the player will not recognize the disc. You willneed to use a burning application that converts the files prior to burning it,or get software that converts files to DVD and then burns it to a disc.

Sounds like it may have burned the movie file as a data DVD.

In other words, the file gets burned to the DVD just like a Word doc or spreadsheet would, rather than encoded as a movie.

You need to check what format you downloaded it in - it may need conversion before burning as a movie DVD.

You can run a quick web search for *** (your current file format - mpg, divx, etc.) to DVD and find a free utility for conversion.

Then your burning software should be able to burn it as a movie DVD, ready for your player.

A DVD CD burner came installed in my Emachine computer purchased Nov 2007 and runs Vista Just want simple instructions on how to use the burner. Thanks

To burn files onto a disc, all you need to do is drag and drop files onto your drive under My Computer. When you have put all the files there, put the disc you want to burn in there, go to My Computer, double click the drive, then go to File/Burn these files to my disc. If you wish to burn music/video CDs or DVDs I would suggest using more of a full fledged burning suite such as Nero.

I have saved a movie from movie maker and I have tried to burn it to a dvd. I see that it has saved it but it hasn't burned the movie to the dvd. How do I burn it to the dvd.

I beleive that in Windows, when burning something on to disc (be it CD or DVD), you have to go to the actual drive window (via "My Computer" and select "Burn these items to disc". From what I remember of the days I burned discs this then burns the file onto the disc.

Hope this helps!

Memorex DVD+R DL 8.5 GO 8X compatibility

If all you are looking to do is write a DVD (ie, burn ordinary OS-managed files onto DVD, without transcoding, etc.), or write transcoded DVD-structured files, or an .iso image file, then don't even try to use Nero. Use ImgBurn, it is 500% better for those kinds of tasks, and it's freeware. I use it to burn DVDs but use Nero to transcode files and create the VIDEO_TS folder files. I then use ImgBurn to convert them to an .iso file, then burn it to DVD, also using ImgBurn. URL:
