Kuki, on a gas dryer, if the thermal fuse is blown, it will rotate but will not heat. If your dryer front has a lower panel, the fuse will be in front behind the blower housing. If not, it will be in back just like this pic. Ohm it out or jump it out temp to see if that is the problem. Post back, Catriver

Whirlpool Gas dryer LER7646DQO. Will rotate but binding, motor labors when starting up. Heats fine. Ideas?

Check the wheels that the tub is resting on for poor lubrication. Try to lift up the tub with something you can pry with. Just enough to take the weight off the wheel, one at a time and then turn by hand the wheel and see if it/they are dragging or jammed.

If you find one or more wheels jammed or dragging, then replace it/them and you should be good to go.

While you have your dryer all twisted and partially dismantled, take a few moments and clean out the LINT DUCT all the way from the TUB to ALL THE WAY outside the home. Damp lint does not move very well and if it has been collecting for months or years you could be clogging your dryer drum wheels, and/or the belt that turns the drum and setting yourself up for a nasty fire in your dryer, that could easily burn down your home. You may have to reroute your hose if you find ANY PLACE that the hose goes up hill or has a bunch of turns in it. Make sure the Duct is level, or slightly slopped down, and keep your turns to the very minimum. Changin direction of a Lint Duct might look cool, but every turn will cut your air flow by 40 percent. Does not take long for the lint to build up, and spark a fire and then it will get really unfriendly around your dryer.

kindly,

Jim

I have a Kenmore model #41790042990 which I purchased I believe in 2000. The last couple of times I've used it on HIGH HEAT, my clothes are still damp when it finishes the cycle. I'll I have done since...

Ventilation is restricted in some way whether it be in the hosing from dryer or going out of house. Also lint will collect inside the dryer below where filter is. Front of dryer has to be removed to access that b

Takes 3 cycles to dry clothes

This is a potentially deadly scenario. If the clothes are warm but just not getting dry, there is a problem with air flow - specifically - the lack thereof. The chance of fire is a real concern.

Make sure the lint baffle / trap is clear. This should be checked / cleared after each drying cycle. Most folks know about this, but I included it just in case this is your first dryer.

If the the baffle / trap looks clear, the exhaust tubing of the dryer is suspect. Many installations consist of the flexible / expandable hose. This hose may have become crushed during the running of the dryer, reducing air flow. Locate the hose and pull the dryer away from the wall to inspect, expand or replace the hose as needed. If an old installation, it is very possible that the hose has become clogged with lint build up over the years. The hose should be replaced in this case.

If at all possible, use aluminum expandable dryer duct. It is less likely to collect lint as quickly as the flex plastic style.

If the clothes are not warm or hot, the heat source (electric heating element or gas flame - depending on type) has a problem. Either of these problems should probably be referred to a pro for proper repair.

Drum rotates. No Heat. Kenmore Electric Dryer

check the thermal fuse on the top of blower wheel housing, also while your there take off the cover of the housing and clean all the lint out,if your fuse was popped the lint buildup did it,check outside and make sure the air from dryer is blowing out and is not blocked,if it is blow out vent line if it's a long run with a leaf blower,if the thermal fuse is good read out the heater with a meter and if that's good read out the t-stats

Drum rotates but does not give off heat

If the pilot will not light then there is an obstruction between the gas line and the pilot. Most times there is a particle that sticks in the pilot. The pilot needs to be disassembled to clear the blockage.

Usually the the pilot is a simple construction and one of the parts has a tiny hole that easily gets clogged. Obviously this needs cleaned.

If the problem persists, the must be a problem further up. check any elements in between. You could try to blow air through the system with various parts disconnected to identify the obstruction.

Kenmore Electric Dryer will not Heat

Define checked everything. Usually when your dryer is not heating but blowing air its one of three things...
1. Thermal fuse in dryer
2. Thermistor in the dryer
3. Heating element in dryer

You need a signal meter with continuity check to accurately test all three componets. Normally the fuse and thermistor are in a set and cost less than 25 bucks. They are easy to replace if you are good with taking things apart. If the element is bad then you need to make sure your lint trap and exhaust hose are clean and kept clean. That is the main cause of the element burning up when it gets lint collected inside the dryer cavity.

In a pinch if the element is bad you can simply find where the metal has broken and try bending the rod so that it touches. The element has to be one solid piece so if there is breaks try and connect them back together until a new one can be purchased.

Please unplug the dryer before doing anything mentioned above.

Hope this helps

THE AIR FLOW THROUGH THE DRYER BEGINS UP THROUGH THE HEATER AND INTO THE DRUM THROUGH THE HOLES INSIDE THE DRUM TO THE LEFT IN THE REAR.
THESE HOLES ARE METALIC IN COLOR AND MAY SHOW SIGNS OF DISCOLORATION DUE TO THE HEAT OF THE HEATER ASSEBLY. FROM THERE, THE AIR WILL FLOW ACROSS THE CLOTHES AND THROUGH THE LINT FILTER.
IF YOUR LINT FILTER IS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE DRYER,
THE HOLES WILL BE IN THE BACK WALL OF THE DRUM ON THE RIGHT. IF YOUR FILTER IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE DRUM, THE HOLES WILL BE JUST BELOW IT.

USUALLY, LINT WILL COLLECT DOWN INSIDE THE SPACE WHERE YOU INSERT THE FILTER ON A FRONT LOCATION.
PULL THE FILTER OUT AND LOOK DOWN INSIDE. USE A CENTER CARDBOARD FROM GIFT WRAP TO CLEAN OUT THIS AREA. FLATTEN OUT THE CARDBOARD ROLL AND PUT IT DOWN IN THE SPACE ATTACHING THE OTHER END TO A VACUUM CLEANER HOSE.
ALSO, DISCONNECT THE DUCT WORK FROM THE REAR OF THE DRYER AND CLEAN OUT THE DRYER DUCT AND THE HOUSE HOLD EXHAUST DUCTING. WHEN REATTACHING THE FLEX DUCT TO THE BACK OF THE DRYER, MAKE SURE THERE ISN'T ANY EXCESS FLEX DUCT SNAKING BEHIND THE DRYER. CUT IT TO THE LENGTH NEEDED. MAKE SURE IT ISN'T FLATTENED BETWEEN THE DRYER AND THE WALL WHEN YOU MOVE THE DRYER BACK INTO PLACE.
