Gateway laptop modle mx8711 windows failed to load
When i start the laptop it tells me windows failed to start so insert your windows installation disc and restart the computer, the disc that came with the computer is windows vista home premium 32 bit, so i tried this but it doesnt do anything, it just goes back to the same screen, so ive tried the boot menu, restart and press f10, from there it goes to the boot menu it gives 3 choices 1-main hard drive 2-boot to lan 3-enter setup, i have tried all 3 and i still get the same thing, if i go to enter setup it gives me the phoenixBIOS setup utility i have tried everything in there that i can think of but nothing seems to help i still get the windows error recovery and no matter what i choose in there it still goes back to windows boot manager, the info on this page tells me thatwindows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt when i continue on from there it takes me to the choose an operating system and the only one it has is windows vista, or i can choose windows memorie diagnostic, when i pick it, it checks for memory problems and then restarts the computer which takes me right back to the windows boot manager and tells me the same thing
Re: gateway laptop modle mx8711 windows failed to load
Try to start in safe mode and then when it finished loading shut it down again. Boot again it should boot to windows if it not, maybe a corrupted files or some files are missing.

I suggest you take your laptop back to the repair shop and tell them you still have the same problem. There should be a warranty covering the repair for a period.
Well first off, when you say 'but when it boots up the screen goes black', what option did you pick? I would try selecting 'Safe Mode with Networking" and see if you can't get into windows. If you can't get into windows in *ANY* mode, you're probably going to have to reload/repair the os instalation. If you can get into safe mode, install 'malwarebytes', an antimalware software, and see if it comes up with anything. If not, I would say that it could be a driver issue.
It sounds like the laptop has had some sort of thermal problem. Do you use it in a dusty/dirty environment? Did the laptop blower fan seem louder than it normaly was in the past? Any number of things (including age) could cause a laptop's fan to stop/work ineffectually and cause it to overheat.
you may need to re-format hard disk before installing the software as windows will try re-using the existing installation instead of re-placing it. start from the windows cd, then select to go to dos prompt.
type
format c:
then hit enter. this should erase existing data then procede with the normal instalation process
I would recommend getting another System disk from your manufacturer as the one that you have may be outdated as to why those essential programs have been left out of the installation process.
I had bought my Gateway laptop with the extended warranty at Circuit City and was worried that the warranty wouldn't be honored due to them filing for bankruptcy but I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to locate the company (Assurant) who is handling their warranties and they helped me over the phone. They had me re-install my operating system. He wasn't sure why it needed to be re-installed and suggested maybe a corrupt file, etc. Anyhow, I ended up losing all of my files but am just glad to have it fixed.
Although gateway doesn't provide free phone support for Refurbished models all of the original software can be restored individually from the restore set(assuming you made it) or downloaded for free from gateways website.
If it's simply an issue with the update causing a problem, try re-installing the sigmatel audio driver from the driver and applications DVD you made, or if you didn't make one click the link below and scroll down to the sound section. You can download a fresh copy from there.
try starting into safe mode and set the display driver to a different resolution that you are sure your computer will display. it may also be an issue with the display adaptor when it switches to a specific resolution setting. windows loads your graphics settings at the time of log on.
Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
