Damaged hardware is responsible for the most obvious iPod sound problems. In such cases, Apple may be able to help you fix the problem, depending on the status of your warranty.
All iPods have a one-year warranty according to Apple's website.
Software problems can also affect your audio.
For example, downloading a non-certified Apple application can stop your sound from working correctly.
Returning your iPod to its original factory settings fixes many of these software glitches.

Plug in a different set of headphones and test the sound.
If that set works, your old headphones were the cause of your audio problems.

If your iPod still doesn't work, proceed.
Remove an application on your iPod Touch if you installed it right before your sound stopped working.
Hold your finger over the top left corner of the application.
It will shake.
Touch the "X." Touch the "Home" button.
Restore your iPod to fix other potential software problems.
Open iTunes.
Plug the iPod into your computer with a USB cord.
Click on your iPod on the left-hand menu.
The iPod will be listed under the name you assigned it when you first set it up.
Click the "Restore" button on the menu.
Leave the iPod alone while it restores. It may take several minutes.
Test the sound once the restore is complete.
The iPod syncs after restoration.
Once the sync is complete, the process is over.
Contact the Apple Technical Support line at 1-800-275-2273 if your audio still doesn't work.
Have your iPod with you.

No volume/sound...just set up TV...

If you are using a generic HDMI or a DVI cable, you will have to provide a optical audio or composite audio cable as well. Only high end HDMI cables transmit video and audio.

No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed?etc etc,

Hello....
No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with all Windows OS updates....many of the users are facing this issue....this began after an auto update from MS changed many IRQs of Win OS, mainly the Sound and Audio Control system of Windows.
1 - R U facing NO Audio / No Sound issue...?
2 - Is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - Is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

If ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....as ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....

NOTE..THIS…IS…VERY..IMPORTANT...
No file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it…or giving any help on this.
Full solution is available in my website (Support page)...it's quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service and help everyone affected by this stupidity from Microsoft.

Low sound.

have you checked if both speakers are working? laptop volume isn't that great and if one speaker is out then it makes a world of difference.Could just be a loose connection to one of them

Check all sources of volume control, both the generic windows system tray icon and the one in Media player

Crackling noise from subwoofer????

sgangsta91,

i think your speaker cannot support the sound that your computer produce. it means to say that, they are not compatible. specially when your computer sound interface that you used is 5.1 or 7.1 interface but your speaker specs is only for generic sound, you really hear a crackling sound and more if you set to higher volume.

but it can help if you only set your computer interface to generic sound or set only in lower volume it can help. because if you continue that way, your speaker can be seriously damaged that even at the lowest volume can hear the crackling sound.

or if you really want a fine good sound system then, buy a speaker that can interface with 5.1 or 7.1 or see manuals of your computer/motherboard. for recommended specs

Lack of volume

As a generic problem, check the sound volume limits in the settings menu. Some players have max limits in place and need to be adjusted for more volume.
