One small two-stroke engine, the spark plugs becomed gummed quite fast. It is a recommended maintenance procedure to replace them yearly. This is often neglected.

I would recommend replacing the spark plugs, it is cheap to do so and should be done regardless.

Another suggestions is to check your fuel mixture. Ensure that you are using the correct mixture of fuel and oil. Too much oil can hinder the detonating ability of the fuel and make it harder to start.

IF the trimmer was stopped VERY suddenly by jamming or stopping the trimming end, you may have damaged the starting mechanism.

As always, start with the easy and required steps.

Hope this helps.

Homelite trimmer, gas, string - y is the string wrapping itself around the head of the trimmer?

The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.

Hard start tb475ss troy built weed wacker when i close the cold start lever it starts but its 75 degrees out its like the primer ball is inop but i see fuel moving through the lines when priming did not...

These 4 cycle trimmers need to be primed 10x before a cold start. The bulb will feel *firmer* on the last two or three depressions and you'll know that the carb is primed.

Full choke and and full throttle on first tug should see it hit once with a puff of smoke. Second start attempt should be in choke position two (half choke) and with full pressure on the throttle. Should rev to life on start attempt. Let the engine IDLE for 30 seconds, moving the choke to off at the end of the waiting period. Let engine idle to warm another full minute with no choke, then set to work!

To keep my Makita weed wacker running I have to close the choke about 3/4. I see no mixture adjustment on the carb and everything appears clean.

An IPL for a 26cc line trimmer can be found here:

The carburetor is pictured but not where it mounted on the engine or how you gain access.

It sounds like it is very lean. Have you cleaned the air filter? Checked for leaky fuel hoses? A loose carb or damaged boot may also be the cause. There is a reason it is running lean. HTH

Continued operation in a lean condition may cause it to cease.

check the fuek lines for hole and leaks, check the fuel filter and clean if necessary. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if it seems hard or brittle replace it. clean the carb with carb cleaner sray (available at any local auto parts store) and compressed air. make sure you get inside the small fuel rail holes. if that doesn't work have the carb repaired at a service center or replaced.
