Question about Fisher and Paykel Washing Machines

1 Answer

My fisher & paykel machine, I'm not sure of the model but it is a smart drive is having problems filling with the water. It seems to be pulsing or surging at intervals and struggling to fill with water. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Jase

First thing to check is the screens not only on your inlet hoses but also on your mixing valve on the back of your machine. Just a few blockages the size of a few grains of sand can foul the system. Also under your machine check out your water pump and diverter valve for damage and proper operation.

Testimonial: "Hi there and thank you for your help. I am familiar with the pump and the mixing valve but are you able to explain the diverter valve a little more to me as I have tried to clean out the filter and stuff as best I can but when I put it back together it seems to still be pumping the water at intervals.I'm not sure what else to look for or how to diagnose the problem at this stage. Close your external inlet valve to the machine. Disconnect hose of washing machine from the valve; keep a bucket there and open the valve to see if water comes well. Next check the screens (filters) on the hose, clean well. This shd be done on both ends of the hose/s. Refit carefully. Check for leaks. If water still (don't forget to open the valve!) does not enter machine change the inlet valve of your wash machine. Can be done yourself. Rate me pl...........if helped.

Assuming you have already done what you said you have done, now it is time to do some real troubleshooting.(Dont worry, if you have gone this far you'll be able to do what I'm going to tell you)

First take the lid off. To do this, open it, and lift up on one side, it should come right off. Now take the control panel cover off. There are two screws on the back side of the washer holding it on. You'll need to wiggle it a bit to get it off. Once the cover is off you should find a plastic bag with a "service" sheet in it. The service sheet explain how to put the machine into the "Test Mode". This is very easy to do and will allow you to check out all functions. One of the test, allows you to check the cold water inlet valve. Assuming your water pressure is good and you have indeed cleaned the screen filter going into the machine you will most likely find that the cold water valve is not opening all the way and will need to be replaced. If your handy with a phillips screwdriver you only have two more screws to take out and the valve assembly will come right out.
Don't think you can swap out the hot water valve with the cold water valve. Fisher Paykel, clever as they are made sure you can't do that. One is a proportional valve and the other is a digital valve. They both look identical but they are not!
If your going to do the repair yourself (you've come this far, why not see it through to conclusion), be sure when you call Fisher/Paykel to order the cold water inlet valve that you give them the serial number of your machine to be sure you get the correct part.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: water filling issue

It sounds like you have a faulty Out of Balance Micro switch(the machine now thinks it's always out of balance) you'll find this under the motor controller module (main computer module) in the top of the machine on the righthand side. Anymore questions feel free to ask. cheers

Fysher and Paykel smart drive 051. takes ages to start. cold water flow seems ok. takes 2-3 times longer for full cycle. sometimes stops and hot water light flashes. yours, jagrat.

Hi just read your posting. Now what water temp have you selected for wash?Is it cold, warm, or hot?Sounds like a water flow problem to me.The water valves on your model of machine sometimes sound like they are filling correctly but they only let a little bit of water in.How long does it take to fill your machine and start agitating when you have selected low water level? Please reply with additional information and I am sure I can help you rectify this fault.Looking forward to your reply.

Starts and stops

A failed inlet valve is not uncommon in F&P machines. The hot valve is different to the cold one, so don't exchange them. Not a big job for a tech to do in-laundry. Good luck....Nomess

Intermittent water flow interupted by solenoids pulsing

I've got the same problem. If I pause the cycle, wait about 10 seconds, and then resume, the water starts normally. I suspect the Cold Water Inlet Solenoid is sticking, probably due to water sediment in the solenoid causing it to stick. I'll try cleaning it and then replace if that doesn't help and let you know what happens.
