Here is the diagram of the sprocket cover, ive had a similar problem in the past with the part ive highlighted,i seggest you dismantle it all and clean, replace any bent/broken bits and fit. They have a tendency to pack themselves with sawdust.

What is the chain brake an where

not on the older chainsaws
newer ones it s normally the black lever you hold
Check the Chain Brake
Make sure the chain brake is working properly by putting the chainsaw on a stable surface. Release the chain brake, squeeze the throttle and then activate the chain brake by pushing your left wrist against the kick back protection without releasing the handle. This should cause the chain to stop rotating immediately.

Why won.t chain brake release

There is a "knee" mechanism in the side cover. It may have failed or is stuck. I would suggest pulling back on the chainbrake handle to almost break the handle, if it does not release pry the cover off of the saw. Then REPLACE the entire assembly side cover and chainbrake.

My chain won't run on my 240 eseries when I try to release it ti cut

The hand guard on the machine should control the chain brake, you should be able to firmly pull the guard fully back to the top hadle to load the brake, if the saw has been run for any time with the brake on there may well now be some melting of the plastic cover, this will mean a new brake complete required, you will have to lever the brake off the saw as best you can, it will be tight because the band will be clamped around the drum, this should only be done as a last resort if pulling the hand guard back does not work

Cover won't go on.round metal strip won't fit on round spindle that turns chain.E-235.Do I need the break bar?It doesn't line up either. DB

Sounds like the chain brake was set when you took the cover off. You need to disengage the chain brake (release it) so the round spindle will fit inside. Look for the two parts (one on cover, one on saw) that match up at the base of the chain brake. You won't be able to fit the whole cover on, but if you can line up where the metal triangular gear engages the chain brake, you can give it a snap to disengage it. What I have done in the past is to line up the two parts and push down on the top of the cover where they meet so as much of the gear is in the chain brake release as possible ( I put a knee on it ) and then give a snap to release it. Be careful though, because the cover part is plastic and you don't want to strip that part of the chain brake assembly. Good luck.

I can't unlock the blade.

Do you mean the chain won't move, or you can't get the blade off? The chain brake must be off to allow the chain to move. The chain brake handle has a housing that engages a gear attached to the chain brake inside the cover where the blade is attached. The brake must be off to remove the cover (usually held on by two nuts). The blade tension screw should be loosened to allow the blade to be removed, then retightened when replacing the blade. Tightening it pushes the blade out from the saw, so if it is tight, you won't be able to remove the blade. Hope this helps.

Chain won't move when motor running

Sounds like the chain brake is on, grab the hand guard and pull it firmly back to the top handle to release the brake.

Took off cover to put chain on and can't get the cover back on the brake band doesn't sit right

You need to release the brake mechanism in the cover so that the brake band will expand enough to pass over the clutch drum. You should have released the chain brake before removing the cover, but that doesn't help now. Use a wide heavy screwdriver to release the mechanism. Hope this helps!

Unable to release chain brake on Poulan 2150 2.1c.i. Unable to reassemble the chain brake cover.

You should have released the chain brake before removing the side cover. Try using a wide, heavy, flat-blade screwdriver to release the toggle mechanism for the brake in the outer cover which should expand the brake ring to allow it to go over the clutch drum. Hope this helps!
