Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

I have a Yard pro lawn tractor. I was cutting some tall grass and it stalled. after giving it a rest it started right back up. but after about 10 more minutes of cutting it wont stay running unless i have the clutch/Brake engaged. It starts great and idles fine, but whenever I try to engage the blades it stalls, and even it neutral if I let the clutch off it dies. in any gear it dies if I release the clutch or pull the deck engagement knob. What is the problem?

SOURCE: Tractor Will Not Move And Dies When Brake Is Released

I would check the wires and clean the connectors and make sure seat switch is working. If that is not working, it's like getting off the seat without holding the brake/clutch pedal down or getting off seat with blades engaged. Both will cause engine to die.

SOURCE: tractor starts, stalls when blade is engaged, or brake released

you have a safety switch malfunctioning or a transistorized relay not working properly. Go to www.partsdirect.com, this is sears website. It should be able to find and illustrated parts list for your mower.

SOURCE: Stalls When engaging the blade clutch

Check that the blade brake is disengaging. Slip belt off blade spindles and check that they spin freely. Check underside of deck for clogged grass, ropes, wire, etc.

These push-mowers have a limited power, when you hit tall grass there is much more resistance on the blades. Even higher power riding mowers can stall on tall grass.

Grass is too thick & tall and may require a second pass until next time when it'll be easier to cut, or... blades are dull & need resharpening, or... tractor speed too high for the length of the grass.

While mowing the grass the engine stalls and then catches back and stalls and catches back contuniually. the Murry select riding mower model number 405000x8c.

bad fuel filter, maybe cutting to fast, or grass is to high for what ever setting your at.

example. if grass is more then 10'' high, its not recommended to try and cut it to 3'' in one shot. start with the highest setting, and work it down. hope this helps.......

Kubota t1670 stalls when grass cutting

Is the tractor running fine until you engage the blades? Are you cutting tall grass? There are a couple of reason why it stalls. First, while the engine is OFF, you need to see if the blades move freely, you need to lay down beside the deck and reach up (with a glove on, so you won't cut yourself) and see just what is up under there. Remove any debris, I.E. old grass clippings, and anything else.(see if there is anything wrapped around the column where the blades meet the rest of the deck) Then you will have to grab one of the blades and see if it moves freely. Wiggle it back and forth and find out if all 3 move freely. Sometimes a bearing will go bad in one of the blade mounts and cause the engine to stall. Sometimes the electric clutch goes bad and then you have a whole new set of problems. Either way let me know what is going on. Please rate my answer.

Is this the first time cutting grass with a lawn tractor?
How tall of grass?
Use the grass cutting heigth adjustments on the tractor to a higher setting when cutting tall grass. Cut again to a lower height setting on the second pass. Grass higher than your tractor is not good for your tractor. Follow the manual instructions for best results.

Perhaps one of the safety interlock switch leads got disconnected when you were cleaning out the plug. Look for two dangling ends with connectors and reconnect any you find.
