Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a Durabrand DBM001 microwave which until yesterday was working fine. Have checked plug and socket - they are working fine. As it is only a basic microwave there is only a timer button to turn the unit on, but does not start. Do not have a manual to find what to check first. Any ideas?

This could be the upper latch in the door. Mine stopped working just as you describe. After dis-mantling I noticed the mechanical action which should operate 3 micro-switches in the door lock was not working correctly on the upper switch when the door was closed.

This is part of the safety interlock circuit to prevent operation of the magnetron when the door is open.

Closer inspection of the door striker arm revealed a crack which allowed the top part of the arm to spring away from the upper switch which stopped the oven working.

This part is easily removed by prising the door inner trim off gently, starting at the bottom was easiest for me, then sliding the arm up against the spring tension until it slides clear of the guide grooves, finally detach the spring.

I have no idea where to get spare parts for this ASDA only branded product, so I am going to use super strong epoxy resin to repair the striker arm.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air Microwave M169B 11 years old.

You should be able to get a replacement keypad, and that's not a hard job for a DIYer.

If you're interested, post your correct brand and model and I'll give you a more specific suggestion.

(Your post subject says Jenn-Air M169B put it's posted under Sharp R-316FS so I'm not sure which you have).

If it's a Jenn-Air, you can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

You can usually find Sharp exploded views by entering your FULL model number here: http://www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct)

You can order Sharp parts from there or from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com

SOURCE: Light, fan and timer work but microwave does not

Microwaves are pretty much a non repair item. It will cost you more to fix than it would to replace.

SOURCE: There is no indication that power is getting to

The power from the plug to the main unit- the board must be checked. So you will need to remove the top panel to check, disconnect power and use a multimeter to check the fuse, power to the main board. If there is no heating please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is faulty, the temperature cut off is faulty or the main capacitor is short. It is also quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
Check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if contact is not through the microwave will not work.

Now keeping clear of the microwave, switch on, use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.
If there is heating without any issues, you can use the microwave safely

Riccar microwave oven RM 700N Light no longer works - can't figure out how to get to the bulb to replace it.

1 Unplug the microwave oven from the outlet. Wait 20 minutes for the capacitor that is inside the microwave to discharge.
2 Unscrew all the screws around the casing by turning them counterclockwise.
3 Remove the cover by lifting off.
4 Locate the light bulb in the microwave. This will be located on either the right or left side.
5 Unscrew the light bulb by unscrewing counterclockwise. Some light bulbs are held into the socket by two notches; for these you will need to gently push on the bulb and turn counterclockwise to remove the bulb, then pull out of the socket.
6 Place your new bulb in the empty socket and secure by turning clockwise until tight, or if the bulb is one with notches on both sides, then guide the notches into the slot on the socket, push gently and turn clockwise until clicked into position.
7 Replace the cover and screw back on. You are now done and may plug back in the microwave.

There is no indication that power is getting to the Microwave. There is power at the socket so I know that it is getting to the plug. It has been working fine up until yesterday during the Thanksgiving...

Where can i purchase the plate for model DBM001

You should contact Durabrand at the number in your owner's manual.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, I would suggest calling the dealer where you bought it to see if they have a number for Durabrand.

Everything quit working no power anywhere

Have you checked the fuse in the plug? Also there is an internal fuse that you have to remove the outer casing to get at. Please make sure the power is off and the plug is removed from wall socket before you start and do not power up until the casing is back on. Hope this helps.
