Question about Garden

1 Answer

Hello, I have a stihl hs60/61 hedgetrimmer, with carb wt-189b. My problem is: It can start maybee for 5sec and sometimes I can rev it up. But after it dies and try again it wont start? I have cleaned the carb, checked the exaust, sprakplug is fine, and compression is fine. Sparkplug gets wet and I have new fuel in the tank. Do I have to buy a new carb (I have checked the seals and metering and it looks fine. Any ideas?

Your plug you say is getting wet so fuel is getting into the cylinder, Maybe its just a fuel air mix preventing it from firing. Screw both the H&L screws in all the way then turn them out anticlockwise to the following settings. H 1 full turn out, L 3/4 of a turn out. This should be set back to standard settings. Also check the fuel line for any holes and also make sure fuel doesnt leak out the fuel tank vent.

Te tank vent is located within the fuel cap itself.

The earlies version of this hedge cutter was in 1973 with the HS200, based around the 020AV

SOURCE: i have stihl pole saw-the primer ball was cracked

I would take it to your Stihl dealer. They have a quick carb check than can diagnose it very quickly at (usually) a very small expense.

Won't rev up

Check the Spark Arrester on the muffler. Usually an allen key to take off a section of muffler to get to it. It's a small Screen. They clog with soot and the engine cannot breath.

FS46. Why does it rev up on its own?

Check the throttle cable, sometimes they get frayed and damaged at the carb end and can stick on.

Stihl FS85 starts fine, But not take full throttle

Pumping the primer bubble while the engine is running should cause the engine to over fuel and stall (if the tuning is correct). Sounds like its not fueling enough, pumping the primer is forcing fuel through the carb causing the engine to pick up rev's, but this is soon exhausted which is why it wont rev on the throttle.
* Check that the fuel line is not damaged and drawing in air. (if this is intact try the next step)
* Strip and clean the carb. Replace any diaphrams if needed.
* Check gaskets seal between carb, air filter and cylinder.

Just out of curiosity what standard carb settings did you use.?

Have a stihl hedgetrimmer, will run fine for a while, then stalls. Will only restart and run with high revs

Certain models of Stihl equipment have a vented fuel tanks, ive recently had 2 in for repair with similar symptoms, but also showed signs of fuel soaked air filter. The fuel tank vents have a delicate little valve in them which have a tendency to perish/break causing fuel to flow back up the breather pipe.

They were stored hanging on a rack with the engines down, which i done suppose helps. I'd advise to stoe flat or if hanging,'engine's up'.

Stihl hs45 hard to start when started won't rev and cut's out

Most likely a fueling issue, Check fuel line for air leaks or it could be a carb problem.

Need A parts diagram for a Sthil G65 Blower carb.

Unfortunately, Stihl won't release any of their illustrated parts diagrams to anyone except Stihl dealers. The dealers won't release them either. It is possible that the manufacturer of the carb will have a breakdown listed on their site. Stihl primarily uses either zama carbs (www.zamacarb.com) or Walbro carbs (www.walbro.com). Look on the carb for engraved numbers and letters to let you know what series and model to search on. The manufacturer is usually listed either on the bottom diaphragm plate or up on top. Walbro series usually start with a WT, or WA. Zama will usually have a C series (ex. C1U)

Good luck!
