Check online computer stores like Tiger Direct, Newegg etc. They should have what you're looking for.

SOURCE: USB to Sata Ide drive

If your sata drive is new then you will have to fdisk and format it before the pc will allow it a drive letter even though you are using it through usb. Did your Usb to Sata come with a driver disk? You will have to run it before the drive will work.

SOURCE: IDE vs SATA

Hai,
SATA is best for all computer applications especially in case of FASTER PERFORMANCE.
The speed rate si specified as below:

E-IDE (IDE/ATA) interface is about 133 MHz.
S-ATA (Serial ATA) is about 3.2 GHz upper limit.

Clearly S-ATA is ahead of E-IDE.
Hope this helped!

How do I read a barracuda 7200.12 1 TB drive? I need to get data off of it, not boot on it

Hi
The easiest way that I have found is to get a kit that allows you to power the drive from a separate wall socket and connect a data cable from the drive to a USB socket on the computer. Such a kit usually consists of four components:
A mains lead - wall socket to black box transformer
The black box transformer - has outlet 4 pin molar for IDE drives
A USB cable ending in unit for connecting to an IDE drive or SATA cable
A SATA cable for connecting to the SATA drive (your Barracuda 1Tb in this case)
The components can be seen on this Ebay site:-
USB 2 0 TO SATA IDE Cable for HDD with Power Converter Adapter UK
The one thing missing from this set up is a power conversion cable converting the molar 4 pin power connector to a SATA power connector. These can be a molar plug to go into the lead from the black box and either a single SATA power plug, or a double SATA power connector as shown here :
Molex to 2x SATA Power Dual Power Adaptor Splitter Cable Lead Hdd Cd DVD...
This option is inexpensive and offers great flexibility in the type of drives that can be connected to a USB port, 2.5 or 3.5 inch, SATA or IDE.
In your particular case you may be able to get a dock that connects to a power supply and a USB port, with an opening in the top to take a SATA drive. These tend to be more expensive and only suitable for SATA drives not IDE.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Need to replace hdd WD2500JS what else can I use?

As long as the interface (SATA or IDE) match you can use any kind of drive. If the interfaces don't match, then you''ll need adapters on the cables to make it match. Just pull your drive out and check the interface. IDE will have metal prongs, spikes or pins where the cable connects. SATA is a flat piece where the cable connects.

Hard Drives are universally standard equipment so any will work as long as you have the right interface so the cable can connect to it.

My WD2500BEVT beeps (3beeps pause 3 beeps pause) a number of times then sounds like windows recognizes the drive but does not.

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

I need a cord for the mad dog multi media device so that possibly I can have this external hard drive accessed.

What device do you need a cord for? The Mad Dog Dominator given above is an internal IDE CD/DVD drive. Thus it can be connected to a 4 pin peripheral molex connector to the power supply and a 40 pin IDE ribbon cable. Some USB/SATA/IDE devices will be able to connect to the drive for external use (since it is a full size 5 1/4" drive). Similarly, you can find some USB external device enclosures that will work with the IDE connect.

There are IDE to SATA converters that you can add to connect the drive to a computer with no IDE port on the motherboard. (There are also power adapters to convert a SATA power connector to the 4 pin in the rare case that you do not have a free 4 pin connector. However, a 4-pin y-connector is usually a better choice).

All of the above items are available from most computer supply shops.

I wish that I could be of more help.

(external hard drives currently can have one or more of the following connectors: USB 2.0, e-SATA, Firewire, ethernet, or USB 3.0. The USB 2.0 is the most common. A standard USB cable (A/B) is the usual one for a USB 2.0. These are also available at most computer shops. Look at the device and the size of the opening to determine the cable end needed. Standard B is a square end with beveled corners. Usually a text or icon on the device will indicate the port type.)

I have sata 80 gb hard disk not working i have sata160 gb hart disk can i replase carcit

If you are asking if you will be able to replace the first one with the sata one ...the answer is that almost all Hdd will fit in any desktop ...(I assumed that you are talking about a desktop ) ..with the condition that you have a SATA bus available ...on the motherboard..and all you will need if you do not have is a cable for sata and a power supply cable to attach on the existing ones..after that reinstall the computer ..and it will work ..
Even if your motherboard is not equipped with a sata bus...you can always get an adaptop ..sata to IDE and plase it like a regular ide drive ..

Is it possible to use a 250 drive from my laptop? If so where can I get a cable to operate by usb?

Most of the shops will offer several solutions. The correct one for you will depend on the interface of the old drive. The drive was either IDE or SATA. SATA drives use a much smaller data cable than IDE. In either case, you can get a 2.5" drive enclosure for ~$30 or less. Alternatively, there are IDE/SATA/USB dongles. These allow the bare drive to be plugged in on one of the sides and the USB cable goes to the computer for ~$35-40. You have to be very careful to orient the dongle plug correctly to the drive data and power back plane. Incorrectly plugged in devices can be damaged. In the case of a SATA drive, there is the option of a hard drive dock (some can hold either 2.5" or 3.5" drives). for somewhat more. Some of these need external power; some of them can work off USB power.

I hope this helps.

(Newegg.com, Cyberguys.com and TigerDirect.com have various of these listed in their catalogs. I prefer the enclosures in my own environment due to pet hair and curious pet issues.)

OK it seems as though you have an IDE - USB dongle. What you need is a SATA - USB dongle. It appears that the drive you have is SATA, you will know this as there is only a small connector for tha Data and Power Plug. The IDE is a wide multi pinned socket with a large 4 pin Power Connector.
I have included a link to Ebay so you can see what you need. as in the USB to SATA dongle. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=usb+-+sata&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=PCC_Drives_Storage_Internal&_odkw=usb+-+memory+card&_osacat=0
You need to get one such as this to connect to your drive.

Go to a computer retail store and ask for an IDE / SATA to USB adapter, make sure it has fittings on the end for both 2.5" and 3.5" EIDE drives. You plug either the ide end or the sata end to the adapter head and plug the usb cable into the host computer. The host then reads it as an external HDD

How do i change my sata controller to use ide?

Buy an IDE controller. Then install it.

OR

Buy a SATA hard drive and install it. SATA drives are faster. If you need to get data from your IDE drive to a new SATA drive, try using a IDE slave cable. These connect an IDE drive to one of your USB ports and allows you to use the drive just like an external hard drive or USB thumb drive. Pretty cool stuff. Have fun.
