Question about LG Televison & Video
I was ready to write an absolutely scathing review of this product at first...BUT I have since changed my mind.
I purchased a new laptop several weeks ago and did not realize that the new laptop did not come with an internal disc reader. major boo. I also did not realize that the new laptop was not compatible with my existing printer, it required a wireless enabled printer. another boo. So I knew i needed a disc reader so I started researching and came across this model. For the price and claimed ability, I figured it would work well for my needs and purchased it.
It arrived in a timely manner and I was eager to install it and start using it...that's where the trouble began. I am a fan of following instructions since ultimately it saves time and prevents you from having to go back and read the instructions anyway. I made a smart preemptive move and bought the USB Y cable for external devices just in case I needed the extra power (highly recommend this, especially since I only paid $1.99 for the cable). I plugged the drive in and inserted the installation software and waited...and waited...and waited. My computer recognized the device and was attempting to install the software but was getting stuck in the death loop that everyone else with a windows 8.1 OS has mentioned. I attempted the installation for over 2 hours with continuous failed results. by this time I was outraged. I had tried to search for a driver for the device online on EVERY site and self-help forum I could find with NO luck. I was ready to pack the device back up and return it to the seller first thing monday morning. I, being righteously upset, decided to post a rant on facebook that one of my friends saw. She has a sister who is an IT geek (said in a loving manner) who wanted to see if she could take a look at it and try to help.
Long story short, if you are stuck in the installation death loop, try plugging the USB cable into each different port on your computer and trying it again. Also, try alternating on each port with the USB cable provided with the product and with the USB Y cable that I HIGHLY recommend getting. I was able to get my device installed on the second try with switching ports. Fair warning, when it DOES eventually install, there are some extra programs available that take some time to load and in my opinion for what i need this product for are useless to me but will undoubtedly be useful for someone else. DONT GIVE UP!!! This product will install eventually.

Well you need to go to the website of the DVD manufacture and get the vista drivers for your device. Vista does not have native support for most hardware, and very little backwards compatability. I wish you success on finding the correct driver for your device. Thank you, Shuttle83

Usually this is an alignment problem-these players get banged around alot-also they suffer from people pushing the DVD or CD down too hard and this makes the space between the laser and disk smaller and this makes it unreadable-may need to take to store to get fixed-you may also try to lift the plate that the disk sits on by a millimeter or so and try it-they get pushed down from putting disk on the plate-that may help -it can't hurt as it already does not work-good luck

I have the Denon 2900 (about 4 years of use) and until recently, suffered from the same (growing) problem. CD's were very difficult to start/read. I recently found advice which I tried and was succesful with. It was manually cleaning the laserlens. I took away the outer housing by unscrewing all off the on top (6), side (4) and the back (2) bolts. After that I took out the top plate of the laserunit which took two very little screws taking out. Now you are looking at the cd-tray with the lens. Take a very soft and clean cloth and moisten it a little bit with clean water (be very carefull with the moistening, don't allow any waterdrop to come out of the cloth into the laserlens while cleaning! Carefully clean the lens and dry it with a dry part of the same cloth. Replace the top plate and the outer housing and the player will recognize the discs like it's new again. Good luck! try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner cd, if this doesn't work the lens itself is scratched or faulty and you will need to buy another dvd player

Here's how I've solved same symptoms with our NS -PDVD8a:
1. Cleaned laser optics with isopropyl alcohol/swap --make sure you let the optics dry/IPA evaporate from the optics before running
2. Using compressed air can--cleaned laser track
3. Gently move laser along track several times - it seems laser is having most trouble at start of disc -- not sure it needs lubrication, but running it along track several times seems to have righted it
Had to do this a couple of times, but it's working now -- expect I will need to do this again -- no idea how long fix will work.
