From what your describing the convergence amps, one or both, have probably failed and opened in the convergence circuit. That unit takes two STK392-040 amps and the feed resistors to those amps should be tested as well for any change in value.
For a shop this is a routeen job, we see them every day. But for a layman to tackle it - it could be the repair from hell.
The STK392-040 is both heat and static sensitive, so your $19.95 radio shack special soldering gun could ruin them in a blink of an eye.
They're mounted on the board against a large aluminum heat sink on the signal side of the chassis with heat sink compound and they're a multi-pin IC so they're not that easy to take apart and put in. Lining up all the pins to drop exactly where they're suppose to is a trickey task even for a technician, but then we have a few tricks that experience has taught well...
Call around and ask the shops what they charge for changing-out the convergence amps and testing the feed resistors in that circuit.. I would suggest taking the unit to them and save whatever they charge for a pickup and delivery.
Hope this helps!

The fuel-pump relay unit is responsible for turning the fuel pump on when it detects the engine is running. When the ignition signal stops, the fuel-pump relay switches the pump off. Problems with the ignition and starting the vehicle often can be traced to the condition of the fuel-pump relay.
