Hi, did you buy your engine used? Sounds like your gonna have to get the carb or carbs cleaned. Its possible you could have a stopped up fuel filter, or not enough spark but i am guessing its gonna be the carbs. They got some gunk in em i bet. Probably old fuel turned to gunk from setting up. I had the same problem on my 40 horse.

Testimonial: "Hi, thank you very much for your help, I will strip the carb down and have a look. Once again, many thanks, I am very greatful"
There were 3 different designs for the electric shift.(including the electro-hydro) They worked different. The earliest one (your right close that) had bendix wires and a drum they wound up on and only went into gear when power was applied. Find the connector on the port side and jumper one wire at a time. This unit was in neutral when the power failed.
The next was only in neutral when the power was applied to the neutral wire. so only apply power to one wire at a time and see if the lower is OK. Believe you needed power to both to get reverse.
If the lower works, you may have a blown fuze (also called "monkey balls" ) under the hood. Thay also had a diode that looked identical, so don't get the wrong part
Check that the power is getting to the lower by trouble lighting the connectors under the hood with the buttons or shifter. Remember some were not hot wires all the time. So find out what you are dealing with and test accordingly.
If the power is not getting there, you will need a new push button switch, but be aware that the buttons look identical, but function differently. You mush get the correct button set. Remember- some united destroy themselves if power is applied wrong.
Use electric ship oil, not 80/90 .
