Sandisk 16gb memory stick is in write protected

This could be a Windows Registry setting that disables you from writing to your flash drive (or formatting it). If you are running Windows after Win XP SP2, you can change that setting.
To disable the write protection:
1.From the Start menu, click "Run", type "regedit", and press <Enter> or click <OK>.
    2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > StorageDevicePolicies.
3.Double click on "WriteProtect" and change the value to 0 (WriteProtect = 0 for disabled; 1 for enabled).
4.Close the registry editor and restart Windows.
5.After Windows starts, test writing to your USB drive.
    Important Note:
Serious problems might occur if you modify the Windows registry incorrectly. **PLEASE** make sure that you follow these steps *exactly* and *carefully*. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it in case you have trouble so it can be restored.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps as in the KB Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/

Cleaning PC Desktop Memory Stick Contacts

The best way to clean the contacts on computer memory sticks is to use an eraser. The contacts on memory sticks get tarnished after being exposed to the elements especially inside a computer where theirs a lot of air flow happening so cleaning them with a pencil eraser will restore the contacts to allow good contact between the stick and the memory slot. This also works for any electronic equipment that utilizes flat male/female connectors like in tvs, garage door openers.Make sure that only the eraser comes in contact with the connections and be careful that you do not hit any of the smd(surface mount devices)located on the board. If your not comfortable using a pencil eraser you can get the same results by using just an eraser itself.I would recommend that if your using a pencil eraser that it be a brand new pencil,do not use a pencil whose eraser has been worn down, due to the erasers metal holder which if not careful can scratch and/or damage the piece being cleaned. This also applies to Laptop memory. Thanks and Enjoy

How do i get to unwrite a write protected thumb drive?

Hello,
Try this:
1. Put in your USB stick 2. Right click "My Computer" and select "Manage" 3. Expand "Storage" and go to "Disk Management" 4. Right click your USB drive (i.e DISK X down the bottom) and select "Properties" 5. Select "Policies" tab and select "Optimise for Performance" 6. Click "Ok" to save.
But in the most likelihood, your drive has reached its write limit (i.e. broken)

I have a clicking noise coming from my hard drive, and now nothing happens when i plug in just clicking and light blinking....im lost and scarred i have everything on that...whats wrong?

The cause of this clicking sound is the arm of the hard drive platter moving as far as it can to the right, in a pattern or randomly. If this write head touches the platter of the hard drive and scratches it, all the data that is stored on that portion will be erased and be unwritable. The hard drive repeatedly attempts to recalibrate the write head, causing the abrupt clicking noises. In most of these cases, the problem is caused by a manufacture defect or physical abuse of the hard drive itself.Unfortunately this is a sign that its worn out also.

My memory stick does not have a lock or unlock position.

Do not use the computer to erase a memory stick. If your pics are safely on the computer and you want to completely erase the stick, use the format function in the camera.

Trekstor hard drive will not format

When you format the process of formatting has to write to all the sectors of your drive. Unwritable sectors means it can't therefore you won't be able to format properly. I would take it to a local PC outlet and ask for them to dispose of it environmentally.
