Re: computer cable

I don't know the answer to this because I am looking for the same thing. This is the answer I got from Si-Tex: You are going to need a cable, cble-6pf-sit. This cable will plug into your GPS-90, on the other end is bare wires. You are going to wire this into the pc somehow. (somehow?)That's the part i'm interested in the most! I ordered the cable can find nothing that shows how to wire it. I assume that it's wired to a db9 serial connector but have no idea what the pinout connections are. If you find out please let me know.

Computer doesn't recognize garmin

Your computer uses USB Mass Storage Mode to detect your Garmin unit. If your computer does not detect your Garmin unit, you can try these troubleshooting steps:

Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
Turn the unit off and then back on again.
Plug the USB cable into your computer.
The unit either automatically goes into USB Mass Storage Mode or displays USB Mass Storage Mode as an option on the screen.

Note: If your computer still does not detect the unit, make sure that you plug the USB cable directly into the computer USB port and not the USB hub. If the cable is already plugged directly into the computer, try plugging it into a different port.

Charge your Nuvi for at least 4 hours. If your unit will not charge in your vehicle, you might nee to replace the fuse located at the tip of vehicles' adapter.
1. Unscrew the black, round endpiece, and remove it. 2. Remove the fuse [glass and silver cylinder] and replace it with 1Amps fast-blow fuse. 3. Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the blace end piece. Screw on the black end piece.
* Connect the vehicle power cable.
* Connect the USB cable (included in some packages)
* Connect an AC adapter (optional accessory)
These are the three ways to charge your Nuvi. Ok

Garmin nuvi 40 goes into usb mass storage mode when pluged to charge

I updated my Nuvi 40 with the latest software and it will not reboot into GPS mode with the usb cable connected. It used to work. I have figured out how to get it to charge with a standard USB cable:
1) Power it on.2) Press the battery icon for 8 seconds - it will enter TEST mode.3) Plug in your USB cable from the PC to the Nuvi - the screen will change to say charging.4) Press the power button 3 times rapidly - it will say Charging across the screen and it will go dim and then dark.5) To wake it up and use GPS mode while charging simply press the power button 3 times rapidly, again.
Works Great!

You connect your satnav to the computer with a mini USB lead. The narrow part, which is the same as the plug on the car charger, goes into the back of the satnav in the same socket that the car charger goes into. The USB connector goes into the USB port of the computer.

If you didn't get a mini USB lead with your satnav you might have one for another appliance that connects to your computer which would do the job. The same type of lead comes with most external hard drives and some camcorders and digital cameras. They are also sold in computer shops.

I dont know how to charge my GARMIN nuvi 1200 with the usb cable

There are 3 ways to charge your garmin nuvi 1200 as follows;
  1. Connect your satnav to a computer with the mini USB cable. Plug the narrow end into the satnav, where the power cable goes, and the other end into the USB port of your computer. Both computer and satnav must be turned on. It will take about 8 hours to charge like this.
  2. Connect your satnav to your car charger and plug the charger into the cigarette lighter socket of your car. It will take about 4 hours to charge.
  3. You can get an optional mains charger which also takes 4 hours to charge the satnav.

How to charge GPS from computer

you just need a usb cable like the one pictured below and a computer with usb ports.

the big end goes to the usb port on the computer, and the mini end goes to your gps. just hook it up and let it go for a few hours. theres no program to run or anything. it will charge automatically unless something is wrong with the unit.

Spc340 fails after 30 seconds. Is there a battery to replace ?

it sounds like the charging jack in the cradle has gone bad they can be fixed, you have to disassemble the mount and the resolder the jack, it is a difficult task i would rate it about a 9 to a 9.5 out of 10 on difficulty scale, more than likely it will not be worth the frustation to repair, vs replace.
