Re: apple ipod displays only grey apple icon

This should pretty much do you

first reset depending on your ipod then quickly useing the correct combination force it into disk mode (already having it plugged into the computer sometimes helps) then use itunes restore utility to fix it itunes will say your ipod needs to be restored and that should do it for you

and one other thing sometimes it is hard to get it to stay in disk mode so try putting it into diagnostic mode then pluging in the dock connector then selecting disk mode from the options

When i sync my ipod its saying cannot be synced the disk was not found what do i do

iPod will not sync with an MP3 player. The file formats are not the same. Apple products use a modified file extension that is only recognized by apple products.

Ipod won't sync to Itunes

Does your ipod actually work or no?
if it works put it in disk mode by pressing the menu and center buttons and holding until the apple appears and switching to the center and play buttons and holding until the check mark appears.

then plug it in the the usb and see what happens.
if it mounts to itunes try and restore. if not go to my computer and see if it is there. if so right click on the drive and format...not quick format use full format.
then repeat the steps before until you get it mounted.
more than likely you have a virus and the virus is not letting the restore program delete it.

Downloading software

iTunes is free and is the best software available for use with iPods. Below I have included several intruction (guides) for you just in case you are a new user and need the information. If you have any difficulties past here please do let me know. I have a well of information on iTunes/iPods. :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes lets you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. Video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format can also be added to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
Open iTunes From the File menu, choose one of the following choices: Mac Add to Library Windows Add File to Library Add Folder to Library Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library", iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. Then adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes preferences.

I had my ipod connected to computer hearing music then i disconected it and know it wount turn please

Plug it into a wall charger if you have one, or back onto the computer to see if it will charge, as it might be a low battery issue.

If not, press and hold Menu and select/center, until the ipod reboots/resets, and you see the apple menu. Then your ipod should be working.

If it still does not, press menu+select again to reset, but right as it shows the apple logo/when you hear the hard disk moving (if you have a video/classic/one with a hard disk) move your finger from menu to play, while keeping your finger on center. This will engage Disk mode, where you can plug it into your computer and format the disk.

This will erase all songs/data. once you have formatted (to FAT32) through My Computer (by right clicking your ipod, and clicking format) Open iTunes and 'restore' your ipod, which will reinstall the firmware/software. For formatting, you can do 'quick format' if you want, it doesn't matter.

Hope this helps!

Ipod wont sync

Try and format the iPod using Windows Explorer BEFORE running iTunes. Sometimes a Windows format will resolve a corruption issue with the hard drive. Please realize that you will lose all of your data when you do this, but it may resolve your issue.

The other option is to get us your unit for our FREE Diagnostic Testing. We will inspect the unit on our test bench, provide you with a repair estimate as well as a recycle price in which case we would buy your broken iPod from you for recycling.

Ipod nano 1st generation trouble! help!

Sounds like a corrupt hard drive.

put it into disk mode

  1. Before placing the iPod into disk mode, you should verify that it is charged.
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Find it in "my computer", right click it and select format. Choose the FAT32 option and hit OK.

Once its done, restart your computer and plug in your pod. Start itunes and it should automatically reinstall the ipod firmware.

My ipod has a sad face icon and the famous 5 r's did not take care of my problem.

Unfortunately, it means your iPod's hard drive is severely damaged. Try putting it into disk mode and formatting it with windows, sometimes that'll take care of bad sectors on the drive and MIGHT make it usable again. It's either that or take it back to Apple to have them fix it.
