Question about Compaq (480082-001) ( 480082-001 ) Power Supply

Power supply does not fit!

Hi, Trying to dress up my daughter's computer. Attempting to put her older Compaq MB and drives into a CoolerMaster case. All is going fine, but the power supply does not fit the screw holes in the Cooler Master case. Is the Compaq PS a different type? If I buy a new power supply, what type do I buy? Thanks for any help, BarnBurner

Re: power supply does not fit!

OK most PSU's are the same.. by that I mean as long as the output & connections match, then the size & shape don't really matter. On the PSU somewhere will be a "Wattage" rating say 250Watt... whatever.. simply obtain a standard (Usually 350Watt) PC Power Supply Unit (PSU)of the SAME or HIGHER Wattage rating & also ensuring the Mating Connector onto the MotherBoard is the same... ya be all good..

Hi guys, i have a power supply HP-Compaq-226519-001 bought from ebay. the seller said it is a working pull-out and i was able to locate the AC input terminals/pins as well as the DC output terminals but...

Go to this link. Click HERE. Unplug from the motherboard FIRST. (all other leads too) You can test by using a paper clip to short pin 14 (green) to 13,15,16, or 17. This will power on a working power supply.

I have a smps(model compaq PS-5500-1C). How can check its out put volatage?

Hello Anvar, hi, to run the power supply on its own, you need to short the green wire with the black wire. (plug in the unit)
using a Volt meter, select a range of DC 50V. put the black probe of the voltmeter to any black wire, and the red probe to the ff:

red is 5V
Yellow is 12V
orange is around 3.3V
Blue is negative 12 (switch or interchange the probe to properly read 12V on the voltmeter)
White is negative 5.

What power supply is the best

OCZ, Corsair, Thermaltake, CoolerMaster, Antec (voted 'most reliable power supply' by pcworld france), Enermax, Zalman. Any of these brands should do fine.

Don't buy a cheap one. Expect top ay between $60 and $150 in the US for a power supply)

Also, buy one that has a bit more power than the one you're replacing

Need to up grade Components

Almost all of the newer power supplies use the black connectors - and generally come with one or two white connectors for older hardware. The best recommendation I can give you is to open the box and make sure the power supply will fit inside your computer, and the screw holes match the ones on your old power supply. Other than that it's normally a fairly easy process to change power supplies on newer computers.

Hard drive not found in bios.

Thanks for using FixYa!

There are three possibilities why your HDD(hard drive) is not showing up. 1. Its already a bad drive (failing HDD mainboard). 2. Loose HDD cable inside your laptop. 3. Bad laptop sata port. Hopefully its just #2 but most of the time its #1. Bring your computer to a technician. They will be able to easily isolate the problem. I hope this helps.

Debian install failed

You might try running one of the live cd distributions to see if the machine hardware is supported that way. You do need a minimum of 128 MB of ram, might be 192 for a live system. It could just be that the system doesn't have enough ram to run Debian, that would explain why it wouldn't finish installation, and why it fails to load now. Check the readme and release notes for minimum system requirements. Maybe you would do better with a leaner distro like DSL?

yes it sounds like the power supply is shot, you can get a replacement at any computer shop for around $40. i would put in a 400w or 450w that way if you add another hard drive or opitcal drive it wont be a strain on the new power supply
