I HAVE A HITACHI 51UWX20B REAR PROJECTION TV FROM 2002 WHICH IS TERRIFIC EXCEPT THE ANTI-GLARE SCREEN IS ALMOST AS REFLECTIVE AS A MIRROR DURING THE DAY. THIS WASN'T AN ISSUE UNTIL RECENTLY BECAUSE I USED TO ONLY WATCH TV AT NIGHT. HOWEVER, I BECAME ILL SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND NOW SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF DAYLIGHT HOURS USING THE SET. HITACHI SUGGESTS USING LIGHT BLOCKING DRAPES, BUT IT'S DEPRESSING ENOUGH BEING HOUSEBOUND WITHOUT HAVING TO SIT IN DARKNESS TOO. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I'D BE FINE HAVING MY HUSBAND REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE "ANTI-GLARE" SCREEN IF THIS WOULD HELP.
THANKS.

Could be the blue CRT shorting out. I had the same problem but with red. Eventually it shorted out completely. If it is only 2.5 month old it should still be under warranty and they will fix it.

I want you to do a simple visual check of something that will tell me what the problem may be.
Go to a channel that is in black and white--old movie and tell me what color the screen/picture is.
You can also turn the COLOR in the customer menu all the way off and look that way.
What we are trying to see here is if TRACKING is set correctly or has changed. If the screen is somewhat to medium reddish it may be an adjustment outside of the customer menu.
Let me know what you find--I have seen several of these where the black and white picture was somewhat red--the idea is it should be as close to black and white as possible--if red is the predominant background color the picture will look reddish.
If this has helped and you confirm the red instead of black and white picture--I can tell you a easy way to adjust this.
If this information told you something you did not know and helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.
