A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You may want to copy and paste this into notepad or another writer program, save it and print it so you have it in hand and have read and understand the sequences as they are rather involved for your player.
This is from VideoHelp.com
Turn on TV and player, press home key on player remote; in setup, scroll down to the padlock icon (when you get to the "padlock" option on your remote, leave it there, don't go to the menu to the right which has three options--rating, password, area code. Leave it on "lock", press 0000000 and you will be region free.
That's seven zeros.
If the above sequence doesn't work try this other process below.
Press the HOME button on the remote, go to Setup and select Start. From the TV options go to TV Aspect and highlight the 16:9 Wide option (must be 16:9 0ption). Now enter 1397139 using the number keys to access the system configuration information.
To change the values of these options hit the ENTER button and then use the left/right arrow keys to select OPTION 5. Change it's current value to ff using the up/down keys. Now power off with the remote and then power back on. Your recorder should now be region free. To check go back into the system configuration information where Region Code should now be 0

SOURCE: open regional codes
Using the remote control open tray
Press 0, 0, 0
Region selection will appear.
Select 0 for no region (ie. all regions)
Press pause button on remote control.
Turn Unit off and back on again.
It should now be region free.

Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.

You have two options. One buy a replacement deck that will only take a phillips screw driver and about ten minutes to swap out or buy an LG IDE pc drive and swap out the lens. The first option will cost anywhere from $ 30 to $ 200. The second will cost from $ 10 to $ 20 but takes about 20 minutes to swap out the laser unit. I always do the second option. You can use any LG pc drive with the numbers GSA-H**n or GSA-41**b. I used GSA-H10n and GSA-4165B but you can buy any pc drive except those with the letter "L" which designates LightScribe. Those units don't seem to work. When you swap out the laser you may have to use the circuit board in the pc drive but that's also easy to exchange.

SOURCE: What do we do if
try firmware update
make sure movie you are watching is legitimate copy and not bootleg which usually do not work
firmware can be updated right through unit if it has internet connection on it otherwise you will need to contact manufacturer and get an update on disc set to you
