SOURCE: engine chokes & dies when deck PTO engaged...

you need to start with your electric clutch and then backwards to your idler pulleys and deck spindles and bearings.
your electric clutch should almost stop the blades instantly when disengaged ,check the center bolt in the clutch to be sure it is tight also
remove the belt from the electric clutch and energize clutch any noise? sometimes the bearing goes bad in the clutch itself.
check all of your 3 spindles for noise and loose. remove belt and spin by hand and listen for quiet and they should turn free with no binding
check blade tightness
any item the belt goes around needs to be looked at for secure and operable.

SOURCE: need to replace drive belt on cutting deck and

You will have to disconnect the deck from the tractor. There might be some rods hanging down by the pulley on the motor. You have to loosen those not remove. Then install the new belt with the inside of belt (V) into the pulleys. The outside of belt (flat side) goes up against any idlers (oversized pulleys). Once you get the belt routed properly the belt will be snug in the pulleys. If you have excess play you have to use trial and error to get the belt routed the right way around the idlers.
Once belt is on reattach the deck and tighten the rods by the motor that keeps the belt from coming off. They need to be close but not touching the engine pulley.

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Kubota zd28 mower was running fine put away but now PTO wont engage.

if your saying that pto wont do anything , that's either an electrical short or a broken belt , in rare cases the clutches go too , now if your saying the pto engauges and stalls the engine or makes horrible noises , then that's a bearing , im betting the deck shaft bearings are in need of some serious grease work

When running the mower, it shuts off immediately when trying to engage blades(pto)

Hi Digger:
I've two possibles come to mind for you to check.
1) Engine OFF - Make sure that all of the blades and pulleys can turn freely.
2) Engine OFF - Double check belt routing. Move engage lever ON/Off and look at what movement happens. It may be that the belt is on the wrong side af a mounting flange and binds when engaged.
Cheerfuls.

Why would a jacobsen 14hp lawn tractor bog out when i apply the pto?

Whenever you activate the PTO, it puts an added load on the engine. It drags the RPMs down as the engine overcomes the inertia of the attachment's moving parts: blades, auger, etc. You feel and hear the RPM drop every time. If the engine speed is dragged down too far, it stops. There are several things that can cause this. I'll list the easiest to fix to hardest. Remember, you might have more than one thing wrong. Dirty carb and dull blades might stop the engine when one alone wouldn't.
Attachment problems:
Attachment needs more RPM when you hit the PTO.
Too much resistance to the implement. Mower deck in thick tall grass, snow blower clogged with snow & ice.
Blades need sharpening.
Drive belts too tight, or debris around pulleys. Blades jammed. Belts routed incorrectly after switching attachments. Underside of mower deck clogged with old grass composted over winter
Blade hub bearings need to be lubed. Need grease gun to fit the little metal nipples, called Zerk fittings & a cartridge of "all purpose" grease. BTW you should lube all Zerks regularly to protect bearings from early death.
Diagnose: Disengage PTO, turn off engine, and turn the blades manually. If there is a lot of resistance, the trouble is with the attachment, not with the engine or PTO.
Engine problems:.
Dirty air and/or gas filter; or bad gas. Air intake clogged, Mouse nests under hood. No kidding, happened to me.
Need new spark plug. Old plug can cause power drop even if engine runs.
You may need to go to a pro for more difficult work, such as a bad or broken PTO clutch, compression loss in engine, weak fuel pump, or other engine problems. Your engine is not particular or unique to your tractor. Go to the engine manufacturer's web site for troubleshooting procedures. Also, go to one the many small engine experts here on Fixya. My experience is mostly related to the working machinery.
FINAL POINT relative to all equipment problems. If the easy fixes don't work, check to see if there is any time left on your warranty (if any). If there is, or you don't know, call the manufacturer's customer service department. Even if they only give you some advice, the complaint will be logged and the warranty clock stopped if you need professional work later. Save the case # if they give you one.

John Deere X304 PTO Engagement Problem When Warm

Hi, check your belt tension, check all idler pulleys and drive pulleys for free rotation with the belt off and finally check that the belt is not bottoming out in any of the drive pulleys. If so, replace the belt. The blades should come up to speed imediately wether hot or cold and it sounds like your belt is slipping in one or more of the pulleys which drags the motor revs down until it grips. Regards Phil.

I have a Kubota TG1860 G riding mower. the blades have stopped engaging. I have replaced the push/pull switch, didn't work. It clicks like it wants to work but doesn't engage. What else can I do?

belts, solenoid, ignition switch and the PTO, you can hook 12v directly to PTO and see if it is engaging, the ignition switch feeds 12v to the PTO, the switch/solenoid engages with the help of the pulleys and belts, just a matter of figuring if its the belts(or in may cases the tesioner pulley) Hope this helped Tim
