Question about Plumbing

Open Question

How can I fix our Hansgrohe Swing C pressure balance valve so that the handle does not loosen?

Very soon after installation, the handle on our Hansgrohe Swing C pressure balance valve started to loosen, so it is difficult to control the water temperature. Our contractor has tightened the inside screw several times, yet the problem immediately recurs. We have managed to live with this problem, yet now must rent our home (due to unemployment) and therefore need it to finally work properly. Is this a common problem and, if so, please advise how to *permanently* fix it.

SOURCE: grohe trim pressure balance valve

i looked at it and there might be a press in cap with a screw underneath where the grohe label is. there also may be a set screw around the shoulder of the handle where an allen hex wrench fits to losen its clamp on the stem. also.......some handles just snap on and just pull off with some tugging and wiggling them just right.

Remove the handle by loosening the screw near the bottom. You should see a plastic ring, probably green, that is the hot water safety. Adjust it so that the handle will turn further for more hot water. It most likely pulls out, then turn it left, reinsert and reattach the handle.

Hansgrohe axor faucet jammed

On this model the escutcheons will turn counter clockwise and the whole handle will lift off as one unit. In some cases water deposits can cause the handle to stick and you may need to use CLR to lossen the deposits. In some other cases installers will put the handle on first and then tighten the valve to the deck. This causes the handle to be too tight to the deck and can strip the handle fixation. Try loosening the the valve set below the handle and see if the handle is easier to remove once the valve is loosened. To adjust the pressure on this type of valve you simply rotate the handle counter clockwise from the off position. As you rotate the handle it will increase the volume as you increase the temperature. Feel free to contact me at Hansgrohe. David Scarborough 1-800-334-0455.

Hansgrohe concealed thermostatic mixer ref no 1537418

check for sediment in your valve body... sometimes sediment can build up particularly in hot water pipes and that can cause the pressure balancing function of the valve to limit total hot water and therefore you cant get it hot enough... here is a link to what I think is the proper valve and the instructions for installing it... you'll want to follow the instructions for flushing and pressure testing... if you have good pressure at the thermo body then you might try adjusting the hot limit stop also covered in the document linked below...
