Divide inches x12 gives feet and a decimal .

multiply the foot answer by 12 subtract the answer from the original number this is the remaining inches now you have feet and inches answer. Don't they teach math any more?

Without knowing your grade or class, I think this problem is to teach you the correct order of doing stuff in a big problem.

1. First you do the parts in parentheses: so 3 divide 4=.75 and 2 divide 3=.66

Then the problem should look like 3(.75) times 8(.66)

2. Then you multiply the number in the parentheses by the number to the left of it: so 3 times .75 = 2.25 and 8 times .66 = 5.28

Then the problem looks like 2.25 times 5.28

3. Multiply what you have and 11.88 should be the answer

Have you tried using stories of real people and incorporate social studies in it? If not, you give it a try. Another way to teach effectively is doing role play. You can divide the class into legislative, executive and judicial teams. It's a great way to teach them how a bill became a law and tested in courts. Setting up debate will also encourage them to participate and do their own research to make effective arguments.

Multiply 40 by 5 then divide by 100 to get 2. 5% of 40 is 2.
