Had the same problem. The module registering the speed setting was broken. Easiest way to fix it is to order part nr KW710359. You can find various shops selling it on google. Bought mine for 35EUR.
Sounds like the triac or one of the main caps have blown on the circuit board - easy inexpensive fix
