Question about Computers & Internet
Hey guys, Ive been having a strange problem with my laptop and now its not able to boot anymore. Its a Compaq Presario CQ61 110-SA. I bought it a few years ago. Basically one night I was using my laptop and I decided to put it on hibernate. Then, when I next turned it on it was at the bootscreen and it said "Resuming Windows" and I took a CD out as it was loading. Then there was just a black screen. So I turned it off and tried again. This time it stayed at the boot logo screen and didnt move at all. I tried many times but it wouldnt work, I tried going to BIOS settings but it took way too long to load. Whenever I press the button to go into BIOS it says "BIOS setup loading..." but nothing happens it just stuck at the bootscreen with the COMPAQ logo. I also tried hard reset but that didnt work either. I posted this on HP support forums and they said it might be related to BIOS but the support is terrible (as usual with HP) and I hardly ever get a reply. Can anyone help me with this? Quick replies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Seems to be a problem with the board (can't say for sure if its on hardware or firmware side). i don't think removing a cd while resuming is gonna do this but there are specific instances wherein removal of certain pen drives or other usb storage devices has resulted in a lost Hibernation session.even then you are usually provided with an option to delete the restoration data and start over. try resetting the BIOS settings if you are able to get into the settings page. otherwise try manual reseting by removing the BIOS button cell inside the laptop and replacing after a while only(say 30-40 seconds).

I have a 2190 with the exact same problem. I have now found that it is the hard drive. The hard drive should spin with random clicking, not that clock-like clicking. The hard drive is located in the front edge of the unit looking like a drive door. Remove the two rubber plugs and two screws. Pull the "drawer" sharply to toward you to unplug the drive. Then try to boot the computer without the hard drive installed. The computer will now let you enter the bios, etc. Weird, huh?

Seems the screen is slow to start up, right after pressing the power button, keep tapping on f1 or f10 untill the bios screen or something else comes up. that will definitely get you into the bios and dont mind if the computer starts to beep, slow down a little and keep tapping.

Sorry, sounds like a dead hard drive. If you can gain access to the drive, you should check for loose connections. Also, listen closely to the notebook as soon as you start it up - can you hear the drive spinning? Can you hear any loud clicking or grinding noises? Any odd sounds can also mean a dead or dying hard drive.
Good luck, and please rate this answer if you feel it has helped you!!

The issue might be with the hard drive.
I recommend you to test the hard drive.
If the hard drive test fails, then it is confirmed that the issue is with the hard drive of your notebook.
