SOURCE: Dyson 07 plug gets very hot after prolonged vacuuming

Electrical current passes through the electric cord and plug - it will get warm, that's normal. If the problem is worse where you smell an electrical burning smell, only an authorized dealer can fit a new power cord to your vacuum cleaner. Call the Dyson helpline, they will let you know who the closest repair dealer in your area is.

No power to Dyson pure cool fan

Check the fans cord. There might be damage to it. Try another outlet it could be the outlet the fan is plugged into. If you see no physical problems with fan. I would enter the serial number in dyson support and see if they will replace the fan. Here is dyson's support page to get started. http://www.dyson.com/support.aspx

Just bought and used but very hot is that normal

Hi Daun, it's Jack at Dyson.

Let me reassure you that it's normal for your Dyson Cinetic Big Ball to generate heat in use. You'll notice the exhaust air exiting the outlets in the ball shell feels warm - this is because it's just passed through the motor, which is also housed within the ball.

Like most Dyson vacuums, the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is equipped with a thermal cutout, which would shut the machine down for protection if it actually started to overheat. Ordinarily this would be due to a temporary blockage, which should be easily resolved.

I hope this information answers your question, but remember our experts are on hand to help if you need further assistance at any point. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The body of the dyson run very hot, is this normal?

    Hi there,

I can confirm that it's normal for your DC14 to become warm during use. However, if you're worried that the cleaner seems to be becoming excessively hot, it's a good idea to wash the filter and to check the machine for blockages. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the link below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and ensure the filter is totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1324&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

    Kind regards,

How do I take about my Dyson DC11 to replace the retractable power cord assembly

While it doesn't require a collection bag, a Dyson-brand vacuum cleaner can still suffer the problems of wear and tear that are prone to any vacuum cleaner--for example, a frayed power cord. If the power cord of your Dyson vacuum cleaner has become frayed, change it immediately to avoid a dangerous electrical mishap. You will need a replacement cord from an electronics service center, along with a few common household tools. You do not need electrical skills to complete the task.
Follow this steps on how to replaced the power cord assembly:

1 Unplug the Dyson vacuum cleaner's power plug from the wall outlet. Press the button on the top front of the plastic collection cover. Lift the cover off the front of the vacuum cleaner and place it aside.

  • 2 Trace the power cord to where it enters the back bottom of the vacuum cleaner. Remove the screws from the panel surrounding the power cord with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the panel. Aim the beam of a flashlight inside the compartment so that you can see where the wires at the end of the power cord wrap around two screws on the motor assembly. Loosen these screws with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

  • 3 Pull the power cord out of the compartment and dispose of it properly. Strip a 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the two wires of the replacement power cord. Run the wires into the compartment along the path of the original power cord--pushing the wires into the grooves inside the compartment.

  • 4 Tie a knot on the cord on the inside of the compartment to prevent the cord from being pulled out.

  • 5 Wrap the exposed end of each wire of the power cord around the loosened screws. Tighten the screws. Replace the panel and reattach the screws. Stand the vacuum cleaner right side up. Place the bottom of the plastic collection cover into the bottom front slot on the vacuum cleaner. Push the cover back on the front of the vacuum cleaner.

    Dyson DC07

First, check your outlet for power...plug something else in. Then, inspect the cord and check the power switch. You can use a multimeter to test across the power plug of the vacuum in the ohms position. Turn the switch off and on. If it does not change readings...the switch or cord is bad. If it does, it might be the motor.
